Do I even stand a chance?

Alright, I'm a URM (Black and Mexican) and NYU is my dream school. However, my freshman year of high school was below average but, there is an upward trend as I progressed through high school. I currently have a 2.9-3.0 UW GPA excluding freshman year its about a 3.6 but I doubt that really matters.

Although I'm not one for sob stories, my less than spectacular grades were due to my severe depression, ADHD, and the move from home to homelessness all while trying to function without any medication or assistance and pretending that none of this was going on while at school. Which I am willing to put in an essay need come to be, as well as go to the admissions office and meet in person if need be.

If I were to get a 31+ on my ACT in October and a 2100+ on the SAT do I have a chance for getting into any of the NYU schools? Or even SUNY?

I have/can get recommendation letters from my
AP Environmental Science teacher
a Chemical Engineer I worked with for sometime
My assistant principle
and a Department of Defense Chief with whom my stepmom works with

there are many fantastic schools that may not be considered “prestiges” I am sorry about your condition, and wish you the best luck. however that gpa is tough to overcome. Look at a smaller school specializes in what you want to do and apply there. i guarantee you will find a school that fits you. THERE IS HOWEVER NO REASON NOT TO APPLY TO YOUR DREAM SCHOOL. good luck. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1169169-chance-me-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

If you can pull off those ACT or SAT scores and put down a solid essay, you will have a shot.

There are a lof of wonderful schools out there, however. There is no need to place all of your eggs in one basket . . . emmotionally.

Are there any school within NYC I have a chance to get into? And then possibly transfer into NYU after a semester or two

*nd the move from home to homelessness *

Do you know that NYU won’t give great financial aid? How will you pay for it?

Have you researched schools that only consider high school grades from sophomore year on? I don’t know how common that is on the East Coast, but the University of California system only considers “core courses” from grades 10-11 in their admissions (weird, huh?). They also consider first semester senior year unless you qualify for automatic admission. I’m not saying head out to the West Coast, but maybe you can find some schools with similar policies in your neck of the woods.
Also, with respect to finances, have you looked into the Questbridge program (assuming your family qualifies financially).
Good luck!

Yes, there are many schools that do not really consider your freshman/senior year grades. Check those schools out. Examples could be any of the UC Schools. Pull off a good SAT/ACT and apply to a school that doesn’t consider your freshman year and you’ll have a good chance.
