A little more info:
would like a large school, and one with a major sports team would be nice. I want to stay in the southeast/mid Atlantic states, I prefer not going any farther north than Virginia and not more west than Alabama. For music, I would PErsue it if I got a scholarship, but if not I would drop it. Riding in college is very important to me, but I don’t need a D1 school, I’d be fine aslong as there is at least a club team. I am trying to get the most money possible since I have a very small amount of financial aid available. The EFC FAFSA gave me was about $27k/ year but my family will most likely only contribute about $5k/year. A main priority is graduating with the least amount of debt possible, but I want to love the school I am going to, too. I don’t have a preference on where the school id (urban, rural)

If your parents will only pay $5K then you need to look through this link for some options.

There are probably some merit aid options in the full tuition thread that might work.

@ally2468

If parents will only pay $5K/yr, then you will need to look at schools that offer at least automatic full-tuition scholarships. $5K might only cover half of room + board for the year.

check the list of automatic merit scholarships:
http://automaticfulltuition.yolasite.com/

with a 1330 SAT (CR+M) you qualify for full-tuition scholarship at Alabama-Huntsville. with Pell, parents $5K, and campus job, that might be doable.

if improve your SAT up to 1400 or score a 32 on ACT, that gives you full-tuition to University of Alabama. i think Bama would check off every box on your wish list.

Of course you will get inot all kinds of colleges. Use the links above. Good luck.

Ok what If money isn’t a problem? Where do I have a good chance at with a nice scholarship? @Lindagaf @Wien2NC @“Erin’s Dad”

You need to get the Fiske or Princeton college guides. Do a search using the supermatch tool on this site. Get some preliminary ideas and come back to narrow your options.

Macauleys Honors college might be a great option for you.

With a FAFSA EFC of 27K there won’t be any Pell Grant.

OP, it sounds like you might think you’ll just borrow the cost for your degree. You can only borrow $5.5K as a freshman and max out at $7.5K/year. Even looking at the full tuition link posted above you’ll still need to pay ~$10K/year for room and board.

it’s really hard to give you advice you when you go from:

is money a problem or isn’t it?

the reason I like the list I linked for you is it tells you EXACTLY how much money you will get based on your GPA + SAT/ACT. there are a number of big merit scholarship you already qualify for. these are minimum guaranteed amounts since in several cases you can stack additional scholarships onto them.

if you bump your ACT/SAT up to 32-33 or 1400-1440, then you can get at least full tuition to Alabama, or Ole Miss if you don’t mind going one state over, plus the chance of adding additional scholarships. both these schools have an equestrian team or club.

how good an equestrian are you? good enough to make a D1 team? have you considered Equine Scholarship Programs at D1 schools? here is a list:
http://www.collegescholarships.org/scholarships/sports/equestrian.htm

from this list and your criteria above, you could shoot for:

Auburn University in Alabama
College of Charleston in South Carolina
University of Georgia
University of South Carolina
University of Tennessee, Martin

With an EFC of $27k, OP won’t qualify for Pell or TAP.

However, if she graduates in the top 10% of her class and pursues a STEM major at a SUNY, she’s eligible for a full tuition STEM grant from NYS. It requires working in the STEM field in NYS for at least 5 years after graduation. With tuition covered and the $5k from her parents, OP could probably cover the cost of a SUNY with the federal student loan and summer work earnings.

If she was willing to commute to a SUNY, she could graduate with zero debt and have $20k from her parents to put toward med school. If she banked the ~$5k/year federal student loan, she’d have $27k low cost loan to put towards it too.
