Do I have a chance at a top 50 school?

I'm currently in Junior year and I've just learned that my gpa is at a 3.43. That's not entirely terrible, until you consider the fact that my class rank is at around the 60% mark (top 50%). My school has ridiculous grade inflation, especially in easier classes where you can just show up and get an A, and also has a weirdly high amount of overachievers (my high school sent quite a few people to top 20 schools).

However my PSAT and practice ACT were extremely good, and I was in the 99th and 93rd percentile, respectively. I feel like I have a decent shot at getting a >30 ACT score.

I've taken AP European history (I got a 4), and I'm in the process of taking AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP US History and AP Government. I usually tend to take a lot of difficult classes.

I really want to get in to a top 50 school, but I'm very worried about getting in. I want to go into either engineering or computer science, and I'm thinking about UIUC, UW-Madison, or RPI.

Also for ECs, I’m in swimming and I plan on doing some volunteer work and getting a job this summer.

Yes- just raise your GPA enough to be in the top 50%.

I’m already in the top 50%

60% at my school means that I’m better than 60% of students, not 40%

Oh, sorry for misreading. Yes, I do think you can get into a top 50 school.

What colleges do you think I could get in to?

You stand a chance at u of washington, maybe…it would help if you worked extra hard this semester to get passed the dreaded 3.5 mark.

What are my chances for RPI and UWisconsin?

RPI’s a low reach, and which campus?

Madison.10char

Reach only because of your GPA
