Do I have a chance at any of these colleges for Engineering?

I applied in Mid October to Rutgers School of Engineering, Rutgers Newark School of Arts and Science (2+2 Engineering), Rutgers Camden School of Arts and Science (2+2 Engineering), University at Buffalo Engineering (SUNY), Stony Brook University Electrical Engineering (SUNY).

I also planned to apply to SUNY Albany (Nanotech Engineering), SUNY Binghamton, Penn State University Park, Syracuse, RIT, and Polytechnic Institute of NYU. Worst comes to worst, I'm going to NJIT b/c I'm sure I have a chance for instant decision.

NJ State Resident

I took 3 APs (currently 2) altogether and was in almost all Honors Classes in 10th Grade. In addition to my 2 APs this year, I am also taking an Honors Physics Research class.

I can’t tell you what your chances are, but when I applied to Rutgers, we were allowed to list three choices. I was accepted into the School of Engineering and Douglass College (before they consolidated into the School of Arts & Sciences), and rejected from Rutgers College. I was a terrible student freshman & sophomore year…I actually was pulled out of the honors program sophomore year, but regained my honors status junior year and took 6 AP’s (Chem, Physics, Calc, Comp Sci, English, and US History) senior year. When I applied, I’m not sure my GPA was over 3.0 (I graduated with an 81.82, which was about a 3.1). My average for junior year was a 98.8 or so, and I believe that was the only reason I got into the Engineering school…combined with a very compelling essay in which I analyzed my past academic transgressions, modestly and without pulling the self-pity card. I introduced my essay by stating my reasons that I had screwed up early on, then owning up to them and focusing on the fact that I was determined to succeed, especially once I took physics and realized that I was MEANT to be an engineer. In retrospect (now that I’m not the least bit interested in engineering but in medicine, which I never expected), my whole essay was a farce, but it was true when I wrote it.

The bright side is that if you actually DO go into engineering and get into the program, your grades in college won’t matter as much as your ability to prove that you’re capable of doing the job! And if you love it, the grades will come easily to you. I ended up switching to a pharmacology major and applying to med school  But my brother-in-law and at least half of my close friends came from Rutgers Engineering, and are doing extremely well now!

i can tell u.
for RU Newark (2+2) you need about 550 in your math sat
for NB you need about 600.
at least. RT rejected me at Newark cuz’ i had a 500 math.
i had a gpa of 3.5 and they said it was ok, but my sat blew my admission.
any way just keep that in mind, if u don’t have that sat. they do not care about all the other stuff in your application, not even your essay.
good luck

I do have a 600 in Math!
