Do i have a chance at Brown?

Hi, I was just wondering what you all think of my resume, and if you think I have a chance of getting into Brown. I’ve just only finished sophomore year.

All Courses:
Freshman Yr: Geometry Honors, Chinese 1, English 1, Ceramics 1, Topics in World History, Regular Biology. Got all A- and As this year except in English I got a B+

Sophomore Yr: Algebra 2 Honors, Chemistry Honors, English 2, Chinese 2, Modern World History (semester course), Religion and Society (semester course), Ceramics 2.
Got all A- this year except I got Bs in my honors courses.

Junior Yr I plan on taking Honors Elementary Func, Honors US History, but probably not honors physics… should I take honors physics? Honors chinese, english, and ceramics are not offered.

Senior Yr I plan on taking AP Chem and AP Bio, maybe AP Calc as well… along with English, Chinese and Ceramics… no history

my unweighted GPA is somewhere around a 3.5, but I go to a pretty prestigious school

Extra Curriculars/Awards:
I’ve been doing karate for about 9 yrs now. I am a second degree black belt
I am a coxswain and I also row sweeps for my crew team. This is only my first year but I plan on doing crew throughout my senior year.
I do trapeze in the summer for fun
Member of the SPAM club (Student Peace Action Movement) (10th grade cont)
Member of the Chinese club all 4 years
This summer and probably next summer I am volunteering at a nearby hospital (10th grade cont)
Summer of 8th, 9th and 10th grade I went on three separate travel groups. One to Australia, one to England/Ireland, one to Japan.
I took cake classes the summer of my freshman yr
I won the geometry award freshman yr
I plan on going on a service trip next spring to the DR
I plan on going to China sometime soon… maybe my senior yr

I’m interested in medicine/becoming a doctor which is why I am taking AP Bio and AP Chem senior year.

Our school doesn’t rank and our GPAs are unweighted.

Took ACT practice and if I remember correctly my score was around 31.

Plan on taking Chem, Bio, Chinese, US History, maybe Physics.
Should I take honors physics? Is it hard? I have a B in honors Chem…

To be honest, I really don’t think you’ll get in. You’re only taking 2 AP, and in senior year. You don’t have a very challenging course load, so your almost straight A’s don’t meant that much. I’m sure you’ll get into some other schools though.

I think it’s worth it to throw an application…just have a good junior year and make sure you nail standardized tests. Your EC’s are good, but your academics are clearly below that of the average applicant. Luckily you have some time to change that. It will definitely be a reach, but the Ivies are a crap shoot for everyone.

I would take honors physics. I am AP Physics this coming year so I can’t attest to the difficulty. I would take it though to show you are challenging yourself. Ask around. Talk to kids a year ahead of you. They’ll have better advice than anyone on CC can give you.

Life’s a dance. You learn as you go.

So do what you want. Don’t let people tell you you can’t, but also don’t be inflexible. Try new things, have fun, and flow with the music of life. As to chances, research yourself: you’ll figure out better than anyone on here your individual circumstances.

At my school, most juniors don’t take any classes called “AP” classes, but we take the AP tests. For example, all juniors are required to take the AP english (not sure what its called) test after we take english 3. I think many classes are considered AP, but we don’t call them “AP” classes. Our school is very prestigious so almost all students would be in AP classes anyway. Just because a class isn’t called ‘AP’ doesn’t mean it’s not at the college level. Our chinese, english, and chemistry textbooks are all at the college level…

I’m the same age, just finished 10th grade, but my advice is to take more honors and AP courses because even though they say it’s a holistic admissions system… they really really expect those classes. Or… you could study for an AP exam on your own. Maybe you could take an AP science junior year? And more leadership in your EC’s. Good luck, future competitor :)

Brown is going go to be a high reach unless you can get around a 4.0 junior year and get high standardized test scores.

I think that the fact that you do something as different as trapeze is kind of cool.
I wouldn’t know because I’m not an adcom or a parent but maybe you could write your essay on it?
