I graduated from an adult school in Nov 2016 with a 3.7 gpa. Before that, I went to a continuation school from Aug 2014 to May/June 2015. I didn’t have a normal life, so I’ve only experienced regular high school for about 4 months when I was in the 9th grade. I found out what an SAT was in March '17, after looking at requirements for some colleges, and paid to take it in May. Unfortunately, I got a low score of 1020. I didn’t study for it and I should have. I’m enrolled in a community college, and my first day is in the Fall. My counselor told me that if I transfer from a CC, my SAT score won’t matter, because it’s like a clean slate…but is that for all universities or just average ones? I know I can’t be picky, but I do want a good school. I’m 21 and live in California, if that helps.
It will vary for transfers to private colleges but it’s true that the SAT is not considered for transfers from California community colleges to any UC school. And nobody would call UC Berkeley or UCLA average! Even the “mid-tier” UC campuses would be considered high end flagships in most other states. http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/transfer/index.html
Same for Cal State schools if you wanted to aim for the decidedly above average Cal Poly San Luis Obispo or SJSU or SDSU.
You’ve got the opportunity to start with a clean slate. Do well in your classes and you have a good chance to transfer to a good school. Good luck!
