Do I have a chance at getting into any of my reach schools? (all help needed)

Okay so I go to the top school in the state of GA and the school gives the most difficult courses. I started out bad my freshman year because I did not want to be at the school, at the end of my freshman year I had a 3.0 GPA, it was a 3.1 overall at the end of my sophomore year and at the end of my junior year it became a 3.4 overall (I had a spectacular junior year and even took an AP class, all of the other classes at my school are honors level). My school only offers honors level courses and it has a reputation for being an academically tough school. My GPA is unweighted.

I took the SAT in March and made an 1840 on it. I want to get that 1840 to least the 2000 range when I take it in October.

As for my ECs: I was recommended to do governor's honors for social studies and as a result I took the test (did good on it but did not advance to state level), "I AM FIT" ambassador (basically a leadership position), Academic DeCathlon (11th grade year and I won a lot of medals, I plan on doing it again this year), Observership for one month at a Doctor's office and I am a member of HOSA. I also plan on playing soccer this year since I am a senior and I have enough time for it.

As for Volunteer work: I will be doing clinical services (it is really a part of my school curriculum for this class but I am told that I can put it down as volunteer hours) at a local hospital and we will spend a lot of time cleaning up a local lake.

Here are the colleges I am looking at (the ones I consider reaches):

Boston University
Boston College
NYU
and University of Vermont

I want someone to refer me an Ivy League school I have a chance at because my parents want me to apply to least 1 Ivy (I know I won't get in but hey its my parents) AND one more college that has a good reputation and will be a reach for me.

THANKS.

Based on this sentence, you’d be throwing your parents’ money in the toilet.

elaborate please.

I want to go to an Ivy League school but when I go to sites and read all these stats of kids with 3.9 GPAs saying they didn’t get in, I don’t know what to think. My teachers say that I can make it in because our school usually does send a lot of kids to the Ivies but still…

The word you were looking for was ‘refer’…

Oops, my mistake.

So do I have a chance at any one of those schools?

Which Ivy would I have the best chance at?

Whichever is cheapest. Also, if you haven’t taken SAT IIs, you cant get into a bunch of the Ivies.

Your best chance would be Cornell due to your geographic diversity. NYU will also be a reach with better chances at Vermont, Boston University and lastly Boston College.

Oh sorry about that guys, I have taken my SAT IIs with a 770 on the World History version of it, 660 on the literature and 700 in physics.

Also, I have been told by a lot of online sources that I have no shot at all at Boston College. And is my application really considered a good application? I mean does me going to a magnet school really weight in at all?

You’d have to have insanely good alumni connections to get into BC with a 3.4 1840

What if I manage to pull my SAT score up to a 2100?

“I want someone to refer me an Ivy League school I have a chance at because my parents want me to apply to least 1 Ivy (I know I won’t get in but hey its my parents) AND one more college that has a good reputation and will be a reach for me.”

Apply to Harvard for your Ivy and MIT for the other college with a good reputation that will be a reach for you. You can visit them on the same trip as BU and BC.

LOL, Res.

It will take MORE than a miracle in order for me to get into MIT. Now if I was on my school’s engineering track I would get in since usually kids on that track go to MIT, Georgia Tech, Cal Tech and we had 2 kids last year who got offered scholarships to attend Virginia Tech.

Harvard?
Hopefully for Grad school since I really do not plan on being an idiot in college or holding a dogmatic belief that I deserve a better life.

It’ll take a miracle, period, to get into an Ivy, unless you raise your SATs considerably.

Okay, so what about University of Vermont and Boston University?

Yes I plan on retaking the SAT. God I made an 1800 the first time around without prep!

I would make the one ivy Dartmouth because it has no required supplement, and truly, spending any time on an ivy application would be a waste.

BC and NYU are significant reaches, BU a smaller reach and I don’t know about UVM.

waste? why?

Because based on what you have told us you have no chance at all of getting in to any Ivy.

I concur. You have almost no chance of getting in to an Ivy school – if you must apply to one, choose Dartmouth as it has no supplement.
If you can get your SATs up, you should have a good chance at BU and Vermont; your chances are a bit lower at BC and NYU.

oh well, just never know, I still plan on applying to an ivy league school

also, should I apply early action if I want to get scholarships?

are you applying to an ivy league school just to apply to an ivy league school?
that is what it sounds like
not a good chance at all but whatever you want
