Do I have a chance at getting into UB?

Well I don’t hate nursing but the nursing they want me to do isn’t the one I planned and researched about. I shadowed a few nurses and a dentist as a requirement for my College credit class but all I was able to do was gather info and watch them do task that don’t really interest me such as typing reports and etc.

Aerospace engineering is the main thing I want to do. I need to actually try that out before I can get anywhere futher.

I won’t mind doing an ASS engineering degree, but the main engineer I talked to said its highly unlikely I’ll get anywhere with an ASS in General Engineering.

If you major in Aero it’s very easy to get a dual major in Mechanical as well. It comes down to needing only 3 or 4 extra courses (I think it’s 3 courses and a tech elective). Most aero students seem to go that route - it’s designed for one extra semester but if you take heavy courseload or a few summer courses you can do it in 4 years.

Ub just sent me a letter about my residency? They asked if I’m a resident, if my mother files new York income tax, and to explain why I go to an non ny HS. I was pretty sure I could get ISS tution but now I don’t think so. What is the likely hood of them giving me ISS tution even though I don’t live with my mother at the moment?

When do they send out these admissions or rejections?

They sent me an update telling me they consider me In state, but it’s weird why they haven’t sent me a rejection or an acceptance.

A counselor told me it’s probably a good sign but that’s not what it looks like. It’s getting close to may 1st and I need everything together, so I can actually make my decision.

Call admissions asap

Sadly, I’ve been waitlisted.

This is probably a sign I should go to UCONN.

you got into UCONN?

Go there then!!!

Midknite, my S is looking at UB for engineering. However, when I was looking at colleges for myself many, many years ago, my finances did not allow me to go away to school. Despite a good HS GPA and decent SATs, I opted to keep my job, save money, stay home and go to a local community college where I obtained an AA degree. Because I raised my GPA, I was able to transfer to St. John’s U with significant scholarship money and graduated with a degree from St. John’s that helped me get into a very good law school. The bottom line is, if money is seriously a problem and you have a particular school/program in mind that isn’t happening for you right now, take the time to regroup, save some money and get your act together, then try again. Your bachelor’s degree will still be from the school you want, and no one will look at you askance for doing the smart thing and going to a CC first.

How’s housing for waitlisted students? Do waitlisted people even get housing?

I still want to try and see if UB will accept me.

UB tries to place all incoming freshmen who want to be residential students in on campus housing. But I don’t think there’s a housing waitlist for waitlisted students…at least I’ve never seen/heard of such a thing! There is a housing waitlist for accepted students who were notified/deposited late…you have to be accepted first, so concentrate on sending them academic updates and all that!

Ub accepted me but the aid was bad, so I’ll stick it out with uconn for now.

Thanks the comments really helped.

Were you considered instate for UConn too? Congrats on your acceptance(s) and good luck!

Yeah I was considered In state for both states, even the Cuny’s considered me in state. I hope I don’t lose that status, since I might want to transfer back into a new york university when the time comes.

Sounds like you may have missed the merit cutoff for UB but I’m surprised you were gapped by so much - did you apply for TAP? Your mom doesn’t have high income as I remember, but was your EFC low enough to qualify you for Pell/ACG, etc? Just curious as I know the state budget cuts have been hitting the SUNY’s hard and wondering if they’re reserving aid for the lowest EFC kids.
