I've done a lot of research, but I really don't want to apply to higher level schools if I don't have a decent chance of getting accepted. I would like to go to somewhere like Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, CMU... My credentials are as follows:

SAT 2250 (800 math 690 reading 760 writing)
PSAT 205
SAT II I haven't gotten back my scores for physics and math 2 but I'm expecting 750+

3.96 GPA UW on a 4.0 scale
Not sure about weighted, but I have taken only honors and AP classes

I'm an eagle scout and as a result have about 150 hours of community service or so, plus I plan on volunteering at a local hospital a lot this summer

National Science Bowl Team Member (captain 1 year)
Academic Quiz League Member
FBLA state qualifier 3 years in a row
Speech and Debate team one year, National Forensics League member
Varsity Lacrosse team member
Spanish Honors Society

Anyways that's pretty much it. I also took some AP tests and I think I'll get 5's on Calculus AB and Macroeconomics if that helps. Do I have chances at these colleges or do I need more leadership positions/ECs? Should I even bother applying to somewhere really elite like Yale?

dude, is this some kind of a sick joke? i would kill for your stats… well not kill, but your stats are really good. Stop trolling us haha

Hahah not a joke, but the fact that you think it is makes me very happy! Thanks.

You stats are quite good for the colleges you’ve listed and those in that arena! I think while Northwestern is of course a low reach, that you can get into it easily! JHU is difficult because it’s such a top notch school and rejects some of the very best and brightest. Ultimately I think your weakness is in your ECs; they’re few to limited and don’t convey a sense of leadership. The issue is that I believe you’re a very “on the edge” sort of applicant where 1 or 2 things can swing you either way toward admission or rejection. My advice would be to pursue 1 or 2 ECs that you are passionate about and take them to the next level whether it’s FBLA or any sort of volunteer work.

Chances:

Northwestern - low reach
CMU - high match
JHU - low reach/reach

I can suggest some other universities if you’d like. I’d just have to know what area you plan on studying :)

Chance me back? [Chance the New Guy!](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1509778-chance-new-guy-penn-harvard-chicago-more-will-chance-back.html)

^I’m not sure you realize what Eagle Scouts are if you think his ECs are bad.

OP, you’re in at a couple top 20s, if that’s what you’re after. Expect to be in at Carnegie and at least one of the two others.

I never said his ECs are bad. I know what Eagle Scouts is and it’s a great achievement, but (and excuse me for my difference in opinion) I’ve seen a fair amount of Eagle Scout college applicants. I just believe that there’s room for improvement as far as his ECs go; it doesn’t have to be in terms of width but rather breath: greater involvement in Spanish Honor Society, officer position for FBLA chapter, etc etc. I gave him the same chances as you did above because I certainly believe he’ll be in at CMU and 1 of the other 2.
