Hi,
I’m a Canadian student going into my senior year next year. I’ve been pulling a 92 average for the past 3 years essentially. I really messed up on two of my courses in gr 11
In summary:
SATs: 2240 right now but I plan to redo it in October, hopefully pull over 2300, possibly over 2350 (just need to improve my reading comp)
APs: I self studied for a few this year, but I’m still waiting on the scores. I know I have a 5 in AP psych. Possibly a 5 in AP Calc and AP bio, 4s in micro and macro?
Issue with my school is that I’m in this particular program with a specialized science/math curriculum that isn’t exactly recognized by US schools. We do pre calc in our gr 11 course which we take in gr 10, AP calc in our gr 12 functions course which we take in gr 11, 1st year uni Linear Algebra in our calc and vectors course. And our science courses, namely physics, are enriched and more difficult but again, not recognized to be that way.
Clubs:
- Been with Junior Achievement for 3 years, going on my 4th. It’s basically an international program that lets high school students run their own company/business. I’ll probably be the CEO of my branch’s company next year (Unconfirmed right now because we haven’t voted yet). Previously, was the Deputy CEO and VP of marketing/sales
- Deputy Editor-In-Chief of school's award winning newspaper, and one of the main editors There was around 80 ppl in the club last year, 7 editors. Each editor spends around 5 hrs a week on it, plus an extra 8 hr on a print week, which occurs once a month
- DECA President
- VP of Debate Club
- VP of Cube Club (for solving Rubik's cubes)
- 4 year varsity co-ed badminton team member
- Exec of a charity
- Completed level 10 RCM piano with honours
-Volunteered in a council at a science thing (organized youth events) for two years until the council got disbanded
- Going to SHAD
I have way too many certificates of distinctions for Waterloo math contests, but no fantastic math awards. I have one minor award for Junior Achievement, a few minor stuff from DECA (but only at provincials, therefore inconsequential)
Now onto my marks this year. I got an 87 in gr 11 physics and an 88 in gr 11 french. Probably dropping french next year, which is not good, I know, but I’m just really really bad at it. 92.25 average overall for gr 11. Is this dreadfully bad? Pretty sure if I actually work hard in gr 12 I can pull off a 95 average at least, but my track record for these previous years haven’t been stellar.
I’d appreciate it if someone could tell me what my chances are in getting into one of the better known Ivy League schools. I honestly don’t know if I should get my hopes up.
Thanks for reading! My apologies for the awkward sentences. It’s 3 in the morning and I’m feeling rather dead
