Your SATs are good, lots of APs, which is excellent, cultural diversity, also excellent. I would think you had a great chance. But even if you get in and get a 100 percent scholarship, can your parents afford to send you back and forth? New York is an expensive city, too. I’m not sure it’s worth going so far for a school when you have a great place like University of Texas that you could go to. To enjoy NYU, it helps to have enough money to do fun stuff in New York.

NYU doesn’t have 100% scholarship. The most they give is $25,000 (might have morphed up to $30,000 by now?). But the full COA is about $57,000…will be over $60,000 by the time you graduate. NYU is a crazy expensive school, with very little aid, and it’s pretty much merit based. There are some nice programs, and they go all the way up to full tuition, but housing alone is $9000-$15,000. Board is, what…$4000? My own D, and MANY others, “need” something different (to get away, have an “artsy” school, different major, etc.)…and are highly qualified to do so - BUT…not everyone can afford to do that. We’re struggling with this decision ourselves, and…have a much higher incoome, but I don’t think, even with a top scholarship that we’re going to be able to afford NYU. Just making sure you apply to an in state financial safety school too.
