Hello. I'm going to be a senior in high school and lately I can't stop thinking about college. I need somewhere local, and the only thing that appeals to me is the University of Scranton. I've been thinking about going there for as long as I could remember, and lately I've been feeling so much doubt about being accepted. My SAT scores are not good, I can not make them higher because I simply am not good with standardized tests. My reading is 440, math is 470 and writing is 520. My ACT composite is a 20. I do well in school, I'm an honors student and a member of the National Honor Society. I make distinguished honors every quarter. This upcoming year I will be taking 3 AP classes along with the rest being honors courses, and I have 3 years of foreign language experience. Also, I rank about 30 in my class of 100+. I don't know what I want to go for yet, so I'm not sure if that's an issue. But I do have volunteer experience at a local hospital. I don't have any extra curricular activities. I am really interested on getting opinions on my chances of acceptance. If you've been accepted, it would be great to share your SAT scores with me. Thank you.

Hey man I’m also a high school senior looking at colleges. I’m not interested in scranton myself, but I had a friend who went there last year and you seem pretty similiar to him academically. His GPA was a 3.5 and a 3.7 with weight. He was not good at standardized testing, but he used his ACT’s becuase he ended with a 26. The first two times he took it he got a 18 and a 20 respectively. He way he really broke through and grew so much was he used “The REAL ACT prep book”. He said that it was really good in giving him advice and it has like 5 practice tests or something like that. I would suggest that you pick it up and try one last time on the ACT (they have a October 25th one) because it can only help you (if you see the same results, you just dont send it). The last thing I would suggest is joing a couple clubs senior year (whatever intests you) and maybe playing a sport. My friend had 1 year varsity swimming and 3 clubs senior year (I don’t know how much it helped him, but just trying to paint the picture of him since he was accepted). Anyways, I wish you the best oif luck! I really hope you make it in!

Scranton has SAT/ACT Test Optional Admission - <a href=“SAT/ACT Optional Admission | Apply | First Year Applicants | The University of Scranton”>Page Not Found | The University of Scranton;

To be eligible for test optional, you must be in the top 30% of your class (which you seem to indicate), submit two graded papers, and you may be asked to do an admissions interview. There are also certain majors for which you cannot use the test optional method and those are listed in that link.

Good luck!

I would definitely take the SAT again even if you are bad at standardized tests. You never know what score you will get if you don’t try. Also, keep in mind that your score can’t get any worse than what you already have. It can only get higher.

If you go the route of not taking the SAT again, @kitty56 has given you all the information you need. Just be sure that the rest of your application is strong and you will be fine. Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1679965-notre-dame-transfer-chances.html#latest

thanks so much for your help! I’m glad I could hear another student’s experience that is almost similar to me. I plan on taking both tests one more time, so hopefully I’ll do better. And also I forgot to mention I also am a member of a ton of clubs. Thanks again for your comment, it helped me realize I might have a chance! Best of luck with everything!
