Do I have a chance at top schools?

Currently I am 20 years old. I am in my fourth semester at my local community college. When this spring semester is over I will have completed 39 credits. With a GPA of 3.8.

The following is a list of courses I have completed and the grade I recieved in each.

Composition I. A
General Pychology B
Surv Western Civil I A
Abnormal Pychology A
Into Philosophy A
Intro music A
Developmental Pychology A
Social Pychology A
General sociology B
Human sexualtiy A
Intro Literature A
Jazz history A
U.S History to 1877 A

This year coming up I plan to take Spanish I and II. Math for liberal arts students, problems and statisitcs, introductory cellular biology with lab, and possibly human anatomy. However, I am not married to those specific science classes yet.

I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa. I plan to get my associates degree in liberal arts at the end of the 09 spring semester. With an estimated GPA of 3.7 to a 3.9. I will be 21. I plan on majoring in psychology.

What kind of chances will I have of getting into a top 20 ranked school? I also plan to work as a tutor next year at my community college.

My high school record was extremely poor, and would not help me in any way. I am white american and my family income is around $60,000 a year. So acceptance into an elite school would greatly benfit me financially as well as academically.

I plan on applying to Brown, I guess to put it bluntly, is there any way in hell Brown or another college of that calliber will consider me?

what is your SAT score?

My SAT score was not high at all. At the time I had absolutely no interest in college, school, or standardized tests. I cannot tell you off the top of my head what my score was. I would presume that it was relatively low. I assumed these scores would of been discarded by now anyways. Is this something that could upset my chances?

you could just take the SAT again, brown has dismal transfer rates so even if you are qualified i would explore other options

Your couseloads seem pretty easy to be honest.. i’d try taking harder courses. I don’t think they will look at your SAT since you have 38 credits, so you don’t have to worry too much there. I think they main thing that will hurt you is your easy schedule. I think if you appy to 10 schools you have a chance to at least be accepted into one.

I’m no expert, but if you’re looking for admission into a top 20 university, you need to beef up your schedule. Your classes do seem very easy. You’re at a disadvantage right off the bat with regard to your poor hs record and the fact you attend a cc.

You are missing two important things: **math/B and **lab science/B.

I would instead focus on schools ranked 25-50.

also missing foreign language; ironically these are the three areas that top schools like to see on a transcript.
