You have a very good chance for admission. USF is seeking more out of state students, plus being a URM probably works to your advantage. USF trustees were even talking last spring about lowering some of the fees for out of state students to attract more out of staters, though I’m not sure if they did. My grandmother graduated a lonnnggg time ago from Elizabeth’s old all girls Battin High School. She’s in here nineties and still talks about being the New Jersey state high school champion for bookkeeping while at Battin!

Graduating from St. Patrick’s #2 in class, you’ll have no problem getting in USF. Bring the boy’s basketball team with you too, USF could use 'em! Was talking to my grandmother this afternoon about Elizabeth and she mentioned St. Mary’s parish and the school across from Battin–bunch of relatives attended St. Mary’s and she thinks St. Patrick’s too.

Your stats are borderline for admission, but I think you would be admitted for a few reasons, including: most Florida state universities are trying to enroll more black males now–the enrollment numbers now at some of the state universities are embarrassingly down for black males; USF is actively trying to increase number of out-of-state students enrolled (extra higher OOS tuition is one factor–get more money!); coming ranked 2nd in class from an inner-city Catholic high school in a struggling city like Elizabeth is a plus; your weighted GPA might only be a 3.4 because your small school doesn’t offer AP and college dual-enrollment courses that would bump your GPA higher–USF admissions will take that into account to your advantage.

USF does modified-rolling admissions and is still accepting applications, but the later you apply, the tougher to get in–they’ll expect higher stats each passing day with new applicants now. If you are interested in USF, get your app in asap. Apply for summer admission this late in admission game for best shot! Good Luck!

A small high school that sends bkb players to schools like Kentucky, Duke, and North Carolina…and to the NBA…is known nationally!

Well, I applied the day before I got out for Christmas Break, so I think that was on the 22 or something. And I’ve heard the exact same thing about the city thing and being a black male, but ever since UPitt denied me I stopped believing it lol…It also might help that the graduation rate in Elizabeth is at maybe 45% (although I shouldn’t be entertaining that lol)

And it’s so funny because in the hallways all of the students look at the basketball players like they’re regular jo-blows, but the world sees them as mini-superstars. Its crazy man lol

Sounds like you have everything in order; you are sure to get in a good college even if you don’t end up at USF. Didn’t mean to sound like I was knocking Elizabeth area, I’ve got a bunch of cousins living there–they love Elizabeth and being part of Metro NY. Too, Tampa airport is not far from USF and lots of flights to/from Newark daily–easy connection if you attend USF! Anyway, best of luck to you, keep your grades up this spring school term and enjoy the rest of high school.
