Essays:
Common App Essay: Very Good IMO 9/10 (My AP Lit Teacher, Counselor, Tutor, Mom, Dad, and friends have all said it is really good) It is about my near fatal diagnosis with type one diabetes where my blood sugar was in the 800s where a lot of people go into comas, and how at first it was tough for me and how i often doubted myself, but with the support of family and the inspiration of my dad’s immigration to cuba and the cuban values he taught me, i never gave up. I turned it into an asset, volunteering, running, and participating in a lot of events to help the type one diabetes community.

Vandy EC Essay: 10/10 Really Really good IMO. Talked about my internship with Hillary, what I learned from it. Emphasized how that despite the divided country we have today, I can still love and respect people with different views (Talked about my family members who voted for the other side), however I would still argue and stand up for my beliefs till I die.

Letters of Rec:
One from my Physics Honors Teacher: I picked her because she is insanely nice person, and i have a good relationship with her. Although it was not my strongest class due to the fact physics relies a lot on sensory issues, which do not get along with my dysgraphia, I still ended up with a B+ in the class.
One from My AP Gov Teacher: She is a very talkative person who knows my interest in politics and knows about my ECs in that area.
One from my counselor who i also have a good relationship with.

I think you have a pretty solid chance

Really? I feel like my scores and GPA are way too low.

Vandy is a reach for everyone now. On your essays make sure you don’t come off as a victim or use diabetes as an excuse. Writing about politics can be dicey. You never know who reads your application. On the other hand if you will listen to and respect others with different views you will stand out as we don’t see much of that anymore.

@bud123 Yes, I tried my best not to sound like a victim in my essay, I discussed how It started out as a barrier and I turned into an asset, using as an experience to become more indepndent as well as becoming an advocate for the community. And the overreaching theme of my supplement, was discussing how many of my best friends and family members have differing poltiical views, and that although I will fight for my beliefs till I die, just because someone does not think the way I do, does not mean I can not love them or respect them.

Ummm… just send in your weighted GPA… i think my boyfriend said something like when he applied for ED his UW GPA was 3.3ish and his weighted was like 3.7ish and he just sent the weighted and, well, he’s a junior at Vanderbilt now
