My question is: Do I have a chance at Colorado College, Pepperdine, Lewis & Clark College, U. Col.-Boulder, University of Denver, Willamette?

Thank you, and if you have any suggestions for schools to consider, let me know.

You have a great list of colleges! Right now, I'd say Pepperdine is going to be your biggest reach. Lewis & Clark has an SAT optional portfolio admissions path that may be worth looking at, especially if your SATs don't get up above 1200. I'd also suggest you consider applying to Willamette during their Early Admissions program. It's non-binding and you can apply to other schools at the same time. It will definitely give you a leg up on admissions there as they fill up quite a bit of their accepted students list through EA. I'd feel more comfortable if you had one real safety --- all of the schools on your list are either matches or reaches. Some possibilities: Linfield in Oregon, Seattle U in Washington, University of the Pacific in Calif.

One more thought --- I had to laugh seeing Pepperdine and Lewis & Clark on your list. You couldn't find two diametrically opposed schools in terms of student body and administration. Have you visited both schools? They are VERY different and I can't imagine anyone who would be equally happy at either one.

Thanks Carolyn, you're a help as always. I realize how different they are and I would fit in much better at L&C, but I can't help but be attracted to Pepperdine. I guess I just try to convince myself that they must have a more diverse population than I've been told. Do you have any specific remarks for Colorado College?
Any suggestions for other schools to look into? Thanks.

OK, just so you know up front - so many people romanticize Pepperdine because of it's ocean view location. There IS diversity among the student body but the administration is ultra-conservative by most college-admin. standards (did you know that they only started allowing co-ed dancing a few years ago?) so make sure that won't be a problem for you. It's a great school academically but not right for everyone.

Colorado is a great school - I've been very impressed with what I've read about their programs. I think it probably it's unusual block schedule keeps it from being ranked higher by many people.

Have you looked at the University of Puget Sound? (Not a safety but may be a fit).
You may want to take a look at the University of Redlands as well - probably a good match/safety for you.

Thanks. I'm relatively sure that I wouldn't last at Pepperdine. I get annoyed by just one person pushing their conservative opinions or beliefs on me, I cringe at the thought of an entire administration doing so. I just read (although there it is possible that it's an exaggeration or made up altogether) that they put a ban on people haging Abercrombie & Fitch posters on their walls and that they do inspections. I would never do that anyway, but I suppose it's the principal.
I think that I'm looking to add some high ranking more well known schools to my list ( by well known, I mean by general public standards, ie not small LACs). I don't know if this is a good thing to do, but I feel like I need it for a more diverse list of schools to look into.
Does anyone have any more suggestions of some highly rated reach, match or safety schools? Thanks.
