Do I have a chance for Irvine if...

I've been rejected to Davis and Santa Barbara and have 1910 / 3.4 uw
3 AP's (3 3 4) + many honors + decent essay . Mathematics is my major.
750 on math 2c / 620 on bio E.

PS i got 4.4 Weighted first Senior semester with 3 AP's (not that it matters) and im Cuban (not that this matters either)

^^ whoah.. you and I have really similar stats..

I have a 3.6 unweighted with 6 ap's, and an SAT score of 1870

I'm out of states.. how did I get into UCSB and you didn't?

From the look of it, yes you do have a chance to get into UCI! I do think your GPA of 6 AP's and many Honors is respectable.. and your SAT I and SAT II's pretty much there...

what is your weighetd GPA?

cougar UCI is easier to be admitted to so my honest opinion is you will be admitted into Irvine

Flong, what are you going to say to him if he doesn't make it? He'll feel quite sad to have his hopes then rejected.

With that said, I'd say that he still has a shot at Irvine. Not a guaranteed shot. I'd say more of a 50/50 one.

Good luck =)

If you are cali citizen, I'm pretty sure the UC System will try their best to give you at least 1 school. You have a great chance at Irvine.. I know many kids have got in with less impressive resumes/stats.

what the question is though, how did this guy get rejected from Davis and even more so Santa Barbara?

I have VERY similar stats as you and have been rejected to Davis.

I was rejected by UCSB and UCD but got into UCI with stats a little less impressive than yours. I'd say you have a very good shot at getting in.

Your tests scores are pretty decent (a little above average) but that GPA really really kills you. You didn't give us a weighted GPA but even with a 3.6 weighted you wouldn't have gotten into UCD. This is under the assumption your extracurriculars are relatively weak.

I will stay you have a chance at UCI. It's defintely a reach, but there's a possibility you'll get in (the extracurriculars on your application may be useful at UCI instead of UCD/UCSB). Hang in there buddy!

Thanks everyone. Yeah my GPA is my death sentence. 2 C's in AP Biology, 1 C in Junior English (I slacked off) , and other various bad grades are really hurting. I'm a California resident and i've been accepted to UCR. I still have 4 Pending : SD / I / B / LA (3 of those which I'm pretty sure i wont make).

In terms of my extracurriculars I have 2 Years of JV Soccer, Vice President of 2 Clubs (for 3 years each), etc and I've done about 150 hours of Volunteer work.

I'll let you guys know if I make it and I wish luck to all that are still waiting.

don't worry! I got into both UCI and UCSB with similar stats so i think you have a good chance of getting in! ^^

Yeah, SB is pretty hard to explain, but at least for Davis, we know this year that they seem to be artificially reducing their admissions numbers. I wouldn't rule Irvine out yet, since the school tends to have a higher acceptance %, but that GPA really isn't too hot.

If UCI is where you really want to go, and you don't get in. Transferring is much easier than applying as a freshman. I'd recommend you save the two years of tuition and do the community college route. Not to mention, you get another shot at regents&CHP.

For transfers to UCI, the majority of the application process deals with courseload, selection, and gpa. Meaning, if you can get good grades, you're a shoe in without any ECs.

Attending a community college can really constipate your college education in my opinion. For example if you truly wanted to do electrical engineering at UCLA, you must get in directly as a transfer. There is no way you can change your major once you get in. I've met a lot of transfer students that are seriously behind. I know junior comp engineers taking the second level of physics with me, and I'm just a freshman. Also, transfers miss out on the first year of the college life -- something I truly cherish, If you can plan it out well though, community college could be very useful in saving money. Just make sure you knock off the right requirements for your major and such.

that's weird..i have a much horribler gpa than yours (3.28ish? uw, 3.7ish w?)

i got a C in bio, a C in bio, a C in geometry, a C in chem honors, a C in ap us history, a C in spanish 3, a C in lit honors

that's 7 Cs in 3 years :-- more than you
(and i'm not even a special minority, nor do i have some super tragic background, or even a remotely tragic one)
but i got into everything and i'm waiting on la/sd/berkeley
UCs amaze me.

Well if i dont make Irvine then I have to ask myself why I even bothered to try and take any AP's at all if im just going to be stuck @ UCR. I mean UCR is an OK school I guess but I never thought it would come down to having to pray for UCI as my final resort. I have friends that never took a single AP, got like 1540 on SAT I and compltely b s 'ed SAT II's and got into UCR with ease.

I really hope i do get into UCI or maybe SD / LA / B will see something in me. who knows =</p>

i must admit...the UC's are pretty strange. I got accepted to UCD with a 2.8 GPA and 1990 SAT =\ Hope all goes well. Best of luck to you!

o god im praying for this ! plz let me in i dotn really want UCR

crypt im pretty surprised that you didnt get into davis and sb. my stats a bit shy of yours and i got in. it seems like their admission decisions are all over the place. but with your stats, i really think you have a more than likely chance of getting into irvine. im still waiting for their letter also = / It might comfort you to know that my xgf got into irvine with a 3.8 weighted and a 1500+ on her SAT I

Wow, i have been thinkign the same thing the past couple of weeks...

Some people I know have taken 0, yes ZERO AP classes and have been accepted to UCR. I have taken 8 AP Classes and several Honors and I will end up in the same school? Something is seriously wrong here.

Anyways, I'm still waiting on I , LA, and B

Irvine is my top choice, or should I say, my last resort...

It might comfort you to know that my xgf got into irvine with a 3.8 weighted and a 1500+ on her SAT I

^^ this is good news indeed I hope i can get in. I was rejected from SD by the way.

Irvine is my top choice, or should I say, my last resort...

I feel you. Unless I get accepted to LA or Berkeley then it all comes down to UC Irvine.
