Hi, I’m a high school senior from Nashville applying to ED2. I currently have a 4.0 unweighted GPA and around a 4.3 weighted GPA. Ive taken the most rigorous courseload I could possibly take. I’m ranked number 1 in my class and have an ACT score of 31. Also, I’m first generation and a minority (I don’t know if that would help me). I know that my ACT score is pretty low but I don’t think I can raise it any higher. As for extracurriculars I don’t have that many (my school didn’t really offer any clubs that I could be part of) but I still have some meaningful ones. I know that this school is extremely competitive but I just want to know if I have a decent chance or if it’s a reach for me. Other schools I’m applying to are Rensselaer Polytechinic Institute and the University of Notre Dame.
Your ACT is a bit low, even for ED2, but first gen/URM could help you a good bit. It’s difficult to quantify though since those aren’t numerical measures, and just factor into the holistic review of your application. I would say you have a chance, but it’s hard to say the exact likelihood.
@luigi66 your ACT score is a little lower for Vandy but they do have a holistic review process so if you have some good extracurriculars then it will help you out. Being a minority and first generation college student will definitely help your application, really does increase your odds. However, Vandy does only have an 8.8% acceptance rate and with you ACT score it will really depend on you course load, extracurriculars, and your essay. Good luck!
