do i have a chance here??

<p>Hi, i'm an international student. I don't really know how hard it is to get into UVa, so please tell me about my chances so I'll know if i'd be wasting my time applying.</p>

<p>GPA 3.6
Class Rank top 10%
SAT CR550 M800
SAT II: math ii, chem, physics: all above 700
TOEFL: 297/300 on CBT
I'm doing IB DIPLOMA
My IB higher levels and projected grades are
Math: 7
Physics: 7
Chemistry: 6
total projected 40/45</p>

<p>Awards
AMC 10 school winner
3rd place in National math competition between int'l schools in thailand (team of 3 students)
Outstanding history student</p>

<p>EC's
Soccer:
4 years varsity...captain this year
won provincial tournament last year
won tournament between int'l schools in southeast asia last year and was awarded "all-star player"
Helped coach middle-school team (9,10,11)</p>

<p>Student Government:
Senior representative of Student council (12)
Co-chair of Campus Committee: in charge of school facilities (12)</p>

<p>3.8 unweighted GPA
ACT - 27
SAT - math 700/verbal 560
lots of AP and honors classes

pretty good public h.s.
main EC is sports - 2 varsity, captain 3 times

<p>snorky u have a good shot (especially because you're instate and have the legacy), but nothings for sure.</p>

<p>snorky, take act again and raise score to at least 30. the first time, i got a 27 and raised it 3 points in one try.</p>

<p>These are my son's stats. He's taking ACT and SAT again. Has been studying a little. Verbal weakness/math no problem. Haven't seen much improvement in practice tests. I guess we're banking on the fact that Michigan puts less emphasis on test scores. Or so they say...</p>

<p>Michigan's #1 admissions criteria is GPA. So if you can have a strong GPA, that will make up for lower test scores. </p>

<p>They typically want to see a 3.6+ "Michigan" GPA from OOS applicants.</p>

<p>Well -- his "michigan" GPA is probably at least a 3.7 and we're in-state. Everything is at/above Michigan standards except the verbal SAT/ACT scores. Well, we'll know soon enuf I hope. Expect to have application finished tomorrow!</p>
