Hi, I am very interested in NYU.

I know my SAT is low but i have good SAT II scores and a descent GPA.
I am Indian.
Probably going to apply Early Decision.
No problem with financial aid.

Do I have a shot?

By the way, I am applying to College of Arts & Sciences not Stern.

Definitely raise the SATs. As you are not a URM (and even if you were, it wouldn't matter), a 1700 is VERY low. Get it to at least a 2000, preferably more. It's probably not going to look good that there's such a gap between your SATs and your GPA/SAT IIs.

You have some nice volunteer experiences, but basketball captain is not going to cut it for leadership. Try getting something else in there... a more academics-oriented club, perhaps? Also, you're a little low on awards... unless if you only listed the contest.

Hopefully you've taken the most challenging courses available at your school. You're also going to have a problem with language classes, since a lot of schools now prefer that you take at least three years of a language in high school (I think it's three...).

Honestly, I'd say go for it, but it might be difficult, especially since next year is probably going to be harder than this year.

Thanks for the info.

More responses please? I appreciate this.

Your SAT scores are definitely very low, especially the verbal and writing. I dont want to sound too curt but unless you raise your scores, you don't have a chance.
Your volunteering looks great and shows depth, but your ec's (i am assuming that you listed all of your ec's) show a lack of leadership, breadth and scope. Try to explore your passions next year: maybe join another team sport, participate in student councils, school newspapers etc etc
I hope you take all of these things into consideration and view this as a totally honest and direct evaluation. Good luck!
