i made a 1730 on my SAT. 600-writing, 600-reading, and 530-math. so 1130 combined math and critical reading.
my G.P.A is a weighted 4.0 i've taken two Ap classes and all honors classes , and will take four additional AP classes my senior year which will bring me to a total of six APs.
my class rank was 28 out of 531 studnets (end of junior year) which puts me well in the top tenth percentile.
my father attended the university.
I played tennis four years. (three varsity)
I played football freshman year until broken ankle. (varsity)
member of fbla
won a writing competition for my region
i'm completing my eagle scout project, although i'm unsure if i will be officially an eagle scout by the october 12th early-decision deadline.
with boy scouts came hours upon hours of community service, so i hope that counts for something.

i'm planning on applying early-decision at georgia, i've always wanted to attend here and would like to know your thoughts on whether or not i could get into the university with that profile?

How did you calculate your weighted GPA? (UGA awards no points for Honors and .5 for AP courses)

What is your unweighted GPA?

Are you planning to retake the SAT? Your score is below UGA’s bottom 25%, so you’d be a much stronger candidate if you could add another 100 points or so to your score. Also, if you’re in-state, scoring at least 1200 on the SAT makes you eligible for the Zell Miller scholarship (=the state pays 100% of tuition).

With a 4.0 GPA and 1130 SAT, I think you have a good shot RD but probably not EA. Improving SAT would definitely work in your favor. Best of luck in the admissions process.

I agree with jablalf. You need to get your SAT score up in order to be competitive for EA.

UGA will look at your course rigor. How many APs did you take vs what is offered at your school. Legacy is not considered for admissions so the fact that your father attended there doesn’t really matter.

Jablalf, the G.P.A that i told you guys was what my counselor told me i had. i figured it was weighted. At our school, honors is weighted 1.05 and AP is weighted 1.1 .

i’m definetly planning on taking the SAT again. HOWEVER, the next date that i can sign up for is unfortunately not untill October 1st and EA at georgia is due October 15th.

I did not really study for my 1730, and am planning on taking some sort of prepatory course in september to prepare for the October SAT. I live outside of columbus, GA and was thinking about maybe taking one from sylvan learning center, any suggestions?

Gamomof3, honestly my school is complete **** when it comes to preparing students for college. The counselors at my school scared students with tales of how hard and strenous AP classes are (they aren’t at all, they just require actually working) and advised me only to take one a year. I would have four AP classes under my belt now, but my school cut the two i sighned up for at the begining of my junior year because of budget cuts. So. Not much is offered at my school as it is more of a technical preperatory system.

Also, my mom has an old friend thats head of housing at UGA. She is constantly telling me that i should arrange a meeting with him and maybe an interview with him or somebody in admissions. Do you think that would benefit me any? Thanks again for all your input, it’s been very helpful!

If you have access to GAcollege411, I’d recommend using that site to find your actual GPA (weighted UGA style). For HOPE calculations, the state uses the same formula as UGA admissions (0 bonus for Honors, .5 for AP) so that number should give you a better idea where you actually stand. In last year’s admissions cycle, 67% of applicants had a weighted GPA above 3.75.

No advice on SAT prep. but [here are last year’s stats](UGA), for your reference:
Middle 50% SAT (CR+M only): 1120-1330

Unless you have questions about housing, I doubt you’d gain much from an interview with the RHA folks. I’m not sure if the Admissions office even conducts interviews… in any case, I don’t think an interview would really benefit you. Interviews are really only popular with Ivy League schools, who use them 1) to connect with alumni and 2) to share more information with prospective students.

Agree that you need to recalculate your GPA. UGA doesn’t accept weighted grades for honors courses. Have you thought about taking the ACT? UGA will consider your higher test scores, so you have nothing to lose. And UGA considers rigor based on what your school offers, so you should be fine there.
