I am a high school junior right now who is striving to get into the U of MN PSEO.
Stats:
I have a 3.98 GPA and took the most advanced math courses possible throughout high school. However, I took no AP classes but took one honors class for Chemistry. To make up for the loss of AP classes, I was a full-time PSEO my junior year with a 4.0 Unweighted GPA. Honestly, I don’t know if this enough? Moreover, should I even submit my 1430 SAT score? Is it even good enough?
You might get more hits with specific U of MN knowledge on the U of MN page?
So are you saying you are doing PSEO somewhere else your junior year and are hoping to do it at the U your senior year? I think you have a good shot. I would submit your SAT score.
I decided not to submit my SAT score just because I don’t want the school to always have it. Also, I don’t want to pay the fee that allows UMN to view my highest score when I apply there for real.
I think you have a great chance. My son did PSEO there, he had a 3.93 GPA and did PSEO at Normandale his Junior year. He had only taken AP Calc AB and AP US History before. I’d be honestly surprised if you didn’t get in. Also, I believe they send out all the PSEO notifications on the same day so don’t expect it early.
I am a junior currently in the program at the U, and from what I know you’ll almost definitely get in. I had a 3.992 uwgpa with two aps plus all the honors classes possible to me, and got in last year, but I also had a friend with no aps and one advanced class sequence (accelerated english) and I believe a 3.95 or so gpa get in for her junior year too. From the people I’ve talked to in the program we all had a 4.0 or 3.9ish before getting in (mostly current hs juniors) with a decent amount of people doing pseo somewhere else their junior year if they were a senior. Unfortunately you have to wait until May 30th to find out acceptance or not, but that day you can sign up for an orientation session where you register for classes, which are first come first serve.
pebble5, you and your friends are clearly great student with high GPAs. Would you mind sharing if you all have been able to maintain these high GPAs at UMN PSEO? I am trying to figure out what to expect when my daughter starts PSEO, and whether to do it at Century College or UMN. Thanks!
Fellow senior PSEO student from this past year here! First of all, CONGRATS!!! But secondly, PSEO is a great experience to become familiar with campus if you intend to go there for college, and for fulfilling your liberal education requirements before even becoming a freshmen. I will say, if you are intending to go into the CSE school, dont think you will graduate a full year early by doing PSEO but you will certainly be more on top of your pre requesites in comparison to other students (this is just because it is hard to to take any of the classes required in CSE while also fulfilling high school classes and commuting). Scheduling can be kind of a hassle, as you have last pick for classes compared to other students, which can be annoying if the class you want is small. As for future readers hoping to apply this next year, YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUBMIT AN ACT/SAT SCORE TO GET IN OR NEED PRIOR PSEO ON YOUR TRANSCRIPT! Me and three other friends got in with only the submission of our high school transcripts (their decision truly comes down to your GPA). Wishing you the best, and maybe I’ll see ya’ll on campus!
