I applied at USC to Viterbi for Undeclared Engineering

I go to a very competitive private high school.
ECs: Varsity Diving, JV Water Polo, Freshman Mentor, Campus Tour Guide, Paint Crew for Musical, School Newspaper
Community Service: Swim Instructor, worked at a store for low income individuals
Employment: Paid Swim Instructor

Your GPA is on par…SAT’s are on the lower end of the middle-50 for USC…SAT II’s are kinda low. EC’s look pretty good. The only thing that might hurt you a bit is your standardized scores. One question though - are you sure you want to do engineering with a 580 on Math II? Frankly, since you’re applying to Viterbi (whose applicants are going to have incredible math scores), your chances may be a bit lower. However we know nothing about your essays/recs, so it’s hard to say anything for sure. Good luck!

Agh! I know I’m a bit low for my scores, especially to apply for engineering at Viterbi, but it’s really what I want to do! Even if I’m not accepted into Viterbi, is it possible to be admitted as an Undeclared student at this stage in the application process since there’s nothing I can do anymore except wait…?

Basically, is it possible to be admitted to USC, but rejected from Viterbi?

Did you choose anything for your second-choice major? If you did, for example- something in CLAS (which has the highest admit rate, I think) or even “open” major, then it’s possible that they will admit you to another college at USC (depending on your second-choice major selection) if not to Viterbi.

I don’t think that would tell you if you put a second choice because mine only lists my first choice even though I did indicate a second choice major.

To check whether you did indeed put one down or not -
Click on “Part II Undergraduate Application (Part II, Fall 2010) - Submitted” and scroll to the bottom where it says “Download/Print Application.” Download your app and it’ll be right above your name on the first page.

Thanks for the help! No, I did not put a second choice. But, I guess if I want to go to a school, I want to be admitted for engineering and not necessarily a different major. There’s nothing I can do now except wait…

Totally understandable. It’d be pointless to be admitted for something you didn’t want to study. Nonetheless - the best of luck to you! I hope all goes well :)
