Hi, I’m a high school senior from Texas. Will I be able to get into UMass Amherst with a 3.2 GPA (out of a 4.0) top 19% of my class got a 1020/1600 on my SAT a 20 on my ACT. I took all AP classes and got Bs and above. I volunteered for over 500 hours. I was also very involved in school and took many leadership positions. I’ve taken internships and done everything I can to put in my resume. I applied EA but I’m just really unsure since it is out of state and don’t know what to expect. Thank you.
All of your stats are a below average for UMass. For example the average person admitted to UMass had a 28 on their ACT. Check this: https://www.umass.edu/admissions/facts-and-figures/student-body-and-admissions-statistics
With that being said your EC’s seem to be very strong. I would say you definitely have a shot.
You would have a better chance at UMass Lowell. The campus is more urban and not as attractive. You would need to check whether its programs are as good for you. You would be much closer to being an average student there.
Being from Texas what attracts you to UMass Amherst. You should definitely highlight what attracts you and highlight your texting background roots. While your numbers may not show the full story. You definitely want to impress with the essay and your EC
Hi! I’m a current UMass Freshman in the Honors College.
You’re test scores are a bit low, admittedly. However, your class ranking is looking good and you do compare well compared to most kids here. your EC’s are pretty important and just hope you have a solid essay
Thank you hopefully I make the cut
Well I’ve had the opportunity to interact a lot with alumni from UMass Amherst and I just fell in love with how they would describe UMass. I’m also hispanic and I believe I have a strong essay so we’ll see.
@saiskee: What are the required stats for the Honors college?
I applied EA to Isenberg. WGPA 3.7, SAT 1510
Still waiting to hear if I’ve been accepted. fingers crossed
@saiskee, my son just got accepted in the honors college (Computer Science), how do you like it there.
