My unweighted gpa is 2.99, and my weighted is 3.009. However, my sat combine is 2030. math: 710, CR: 620, writing: 700. (Math + cr = 1330.) My sat is above SBU's "high SAT" score but my gpa is a lot lower than the average freshman gpa (3.6).

It’s difficult to say as Stony is becoming increasingly competitive year after year. Make sure the rest of your application (personal statement, recommendations) are strong and make up for the GPA issue.

yeah, i’m trying to write a well written essay. As for extracurriculars, i have a bunch, but no real leadership positions.

Darkodor, I wouldn’t be too worried. Analysis of the student body present on campus during the date of orientation and open house leads me to conclude that ANYTHING is possible. While there is no doubt in my mind brilliant people attend the institution, there is clearly a large share of people of will make you wonder how they even got there considering how competitive some make the school seem. I’m sure you are a fine student and if you express clear interest in attending, have good recommendations and so on I’d say you have a shot. Don’t let anyone discourage you on this board. Stay positive and have confidence!

I agree, Arthos. I’ve known acquaintances in high school whom had 2.6 gpas that got accepted into Stonybrook. Granted, they were jocks who sold to the interviewers during college visit panels on the basis of their athletics record.
However, in another case, during my orientation not too long ago, I eavesdropped two guys at my table who were discussing on how to cheat and ace their finals. Clearly questionable how these people get into this university.

Thank you. I’ll try my best on my essay and ECs…praying that i get in lol
