Hello all!

I'm currently a chemistry major at a big state university in Oregon with plans to graduate Spring 2014. I'm looking to apply for pharmacy school after I graduate.

I'm fairly concerned with my current GPA. My cGPA at the moment is a 3.15. Over the past year, I've had a bit of a downward grade trend (burn-out and lack of motivation). Without delving in a story filled with excuses, it was primarily because of my lack of trying. Prior to this, I had around a 3.4ish GPA. This summer I've made a steadfast effort in reversing that trend and am currently taking Gen Bio this summer with hopes of getting A's through the sequence. Here are the grades I have for the pre-requisites I currently have:

Gen Chem I: A-
Gen Chem II: A-
Gen Chem III: A
Gen Chem Lab I: B+
Gen Chem Lab II: C+ (botched up a big assignment - mistook the deadline)
Gen Chem Lab III: B

Org Chem I: B
Org Chem II: C+
Org Chem III: C
Org Chem Lab I: A-
Org Chem Lab II: B
(My school only counts two terms of Ochem lab for pre-Health).

Physics I: B
Physics II: A-
Physics III: B+
Physics Lab I: A-
Physics Lab II: B
Physics Lab III: B

Microeconomics + Macroeconomics: B (took these freshman year)

Calc I: B
Calc II: A-
Calc III: B+

I'm taking Cell and Micro Biology next year, as well as two terms of upper division biochemistry. I'm also going to take Human Physiology and Anatomy either Summer 2014 or as a Post-Bacc if need be. I also have a year of Physical Chemistry + lab, though the grades in that class weren't great (C, C, B for lecture and C+, B+, A- for lab). That was taken during my lapse in work ethic, though it was still ridiculously hard regardless I started off as a music major, and the shift to a completely unrelated degree has led to me taking longer than the average student to graduate (6 years). Additionally, if it makes any difference I also have a minor in business where I earned mostly A's.

Mathematically, if I can score a 3.6+ next year, I should be able to get my GPA to ~3.30. If not, I'm hoping to at least get it into the mid-high 3.2 range. My major worry here is my weak Ochem grades (low due to lack of effort, not so much inability to learn material) and a C- I got in a Ochem lab designed only for Chem majors (class was poorly structured and was subsequently overhauled the following year. This, of course, is besides the point - the grade is what it is). This course is not a pre-req. Generally speaking, despite those grades I feel like I have a pretty good grasp of the concepts.

I have not yet prepared for the PCAT, but intend to devote considerable time to it. I also hope to gain some shadowing experience as well as volunteer experience if it is helpful.

If I apply early and broadly, do I have a shot at getting into a Pharm.D program? I recently made the decision to give pharmacy a shot after mulling it over for a while - I intend to work towards this goal as best as I can.

Thanks for any responses!
