Do I have a chance of getting in Phillips Exeter Academy or Phillips Academy Andover?

I am applying to Grade 10 at Exeter and Andover. I am an Indian female born in South Africa and I am currently living in South Africa. I mostly have A’s with a few B’s on my report. I play tennis for my province and I am two time medalist at the South African inter provincial tennis tournament. I am also part of the Western Province Maths Team and my team has come second at the South African Maths Competition. I am part of many community service clubs at my school and I have got good recommendations from my teachers. I have written the ISEE and I got an overall 89 percentile. I had a great interview and I have written good essays for my application. I am applying for financial aid, which I feel might decrease my chances.

I’m sure you know, it’s a hard one to answer. Do you have a chance? For sure. How much? We don’t know. Are you a strong applicant? Yes, along with thousands of other strong candidates for the 800 total offers of acceptance sent out from these schools.

Let’s assume your apps to both achools are mutually exclusive events (of course they aren’t). PA acceptance is 12%. With FA for an international, let’s say 8% (some will say it’s need-blind so don’t knock it down, I’m not so sure). PEA, let’s reduce the 16% acceptance rate to a 12% chance.

Odds of getting in to at least one: 1 - (.92 * .88 ) = 19% chance.

Ummm, no.

Should you be admitted to boarding school (or even if you end up going to a local school), take a statistics class, and you will discover why that rationale is faulty.

Well aware.

Chances thread - ask silly questions, get silly answers.

OP; You certainly offer diversity & talent. You should be a competitive applicant.

Thank you
