Hey everyone, just in need of some opinions of whether I should get my hopes up for Bowdoin. It has been my fav school, and i was too stupid to apply there ED. I did an interview in the summer, and visited there twice…Here are some of my stats:

Male, Caucasian

SAT: 2060 (660 math, 660 CR, 740 Writing)

APS: English lang and comp:4 World History: 5

Im taking honors US history 2, AP Lit, AP Calc AB, AP environmental, AP psych, and this intense after school arts program called the educational center for the arts (ECA)

Im the VP of the National Honor Society, the secretary of the math honor society, and involved (and an officer of) in several clubs. I am the head photographer for our school newspaper.

Ive volunteered for a while at a local natural history museum affiliated with Yale, and have taken a college class (Psych) at Yale as well. I’ve taken several language classes through yale, including two years of arabic. I am fluent in german. Ive loved the arts my entire life, esp photography. I am currently taking a sociology class at another university (southern CT state university).

Would it be obnoxious if i sent them a CD with some of my artworks on it, as well as a recommendation from the arts program right now? Ive already applied, so idk if its too late.

jacob – Bowdoin uses the Common App Arts Supplement so if you’re going to send the artwork CD, you should do it with the Arts Supplement and follow the instructions. And maybe send an e-mail to let them know it’s coming since it’s mid-Feb. now.

Your GPA is good and curriculum strong. The arts/language activities/courses could distinguish you from others, but your SAT scores (submitted?) probably would be on the low side for successful candidates who submit scores. If you got strong teacher recommendations, wrote really good essays, and wow them with your arts submission (any prizes or awards?), you could have a good chance.

They admitted about 45% of the incoming class ED this year, so the RD competition will be pretty stiff. (Accepted 36% of ED I apps and 18% of ED II.)

Thanks so much royal73! I will send them an email before I send off the CD. any other suggestions/comments from anyone else? I felt my teacher recs were really strong, especially from one teacher who transformed how i wrote. I regret so much that i didnt apply ED, i dont know what i was thinking!
Also my SAT II scores were:

seriously, bowdoin is crazy. i didn’t send in my ACT scores cause they’re not too good. but i still got in. I wasn’t also as involved in clubs. I wasn’t the fastest guy in track. But my essay was amazing, or at least that’s what people told me. And I think that that is what is more important. As long as you have something that sets you apart. Mine was that I’m gay who came to America when I was 12. What’s yours? I think people are getting mislead by the idea that it’s all about GPA or standarized scores. I beg to differ. High school numbers don’t really matter. Don’t worry about numbers, cause I honestly believe that Bowdoin is not that type of school. And interview is good too, I did one too which lasted for an hour.

I applied ED II which means the acceptance rate is 18%. There were only 36 of us who got in ED II.

So, I say you have a very very good chance getting in! If you do get in, I’ll see soon :D

wait, what was the thing that set you apart? that your gay and came to america when you were 12, or that your a guy that came to america when you were 12?
Anyways, thanks! Yeah i run XC too, pretty good, but never won or anything. Im half german and love languages, maybe that counts… Yeah, see you there! haha

yeah my interview lasted about that long too. My interviewer and i talked about XC for a little haha. I really hope i get in but idk if i can. guess ill find out in a month and a half though

haha yeah unless your team absolutely sucks b/c only like 2-3 kids take it seriously (like, some of the girls on the girls team got “lost” in a race) and our team is also only like 1/4 of the size of all the other teams lol. its a little frustrating, but hopefully bowdoin will be better. my interveiwer was on the XC team and she really liked it, so thats good
