The middle of my junior year I was diagnosed with chronic depression and severe anxiety disorder which is partially why my grades junior year are so bad. Because of the depression and trouble focusing I wouldn't complete my work and then do poorly on tests, panic, anxiety would kick in and then repeat. I would have frequent panic attacks over school as well and would sometimes stay home from school which would put me behind and as you can see it's been a vicious cycle. I'm on medication now for my anxiety and have been unofficially diagnosed with ADD. So theres a reason for why my grades are low and not that I'm just lazy. So hopefully my third term grades for junior year will improve and I'll do well 1st term senior year.

With all of this in mind do you think I have a chance of getting into Emerson?

I was accepted to Emerson for Writing, Literature and Publishing in December. They don’t focus too much on math grades but they are a communications school so your C+ in French 3 won’t exactly help you. You will have to explain the situation that caused your grades to slip in your application and have someone be able to back that up (guidance counselor perhaps). I know it will be difficult but you should try as hard as you can to get your grades up senior year. You have an extensive list of EC’s which are great. Try to get involved in something that’s more related to the major you want to pursue though. Emerson looks for students who are involved in what they want to major in. Just try hard to get your grades up and start thinking about how you’ll explain your situation. Emerson’s application is interesting. You’ll have to write three “essays” which are: the 500 word max Common App essay and two 200 word max short answers. If you do really well on these your chances of admission are higher. If Emerson is your dream then work hard to make it happen
