Do I have a chance RD?????

Hey everyone. Fairly new CC member here, just seeking some advice/predictions from some of you. Here are my stats:

SAT: 2150 (710 CR, 680 M, 760 W)

SAT II's: 780 US History, 660 Lit.

GPA: 3.78 unweighted on 4.0 scale

6 AP's: ap english language, ap english lit, ap enviro science, ap euro history, ap us history, ap comp. governments. i have taken 3 tests: euro, us, and language, with respective scores of 5,4,4

Academic Awards: Cum Laude Society (national honor society), ap scholar. i am in top 10%, school does not rank. prestigious (sp) private school. o, founder's club (selected by faculty and peers to represent school at various events)

EC's:

Varsity Swimming (all four years): league champs 11th grade, i hold school's men's 500 yard freestyle record, most improved 11th grade award. coach's award 10th grade

Basketball (all four years): Varsity in 12th grade season in progress. 11th grade league champs and most improved player. huge time commitment. 20 hours per week for 18 weeks per year for 4 years.

internship at legal department of publicly traded fortune 500 company over summer and through this year. website designer of law corporation previous summer, and file clerk summer before that.

essays: good
recs: amazing

o, im white, but i decline to state on applications since it is optional. i guess they assume i am white anyway

Thanks. I'd be so happy if I got into Emory!

you have good stats, took hard classes, were really involved...if your recs and essays are what you say they are, you def. have a shot

Thanks for your time and response. I can only hope. Also, please other people respond so I hae more input, maybe people who have already gotten in and know what they are looking for or my chances.

Thanks everyone.

ttt (to the top aka bump)

You look really good; apply early rather than later- I know an exceptionally strong student who was waitlisted last year, and I think applying late and not demonstrating interest was the problem. Your EC's look good, especially swimming.

Is the supplemental essay really that important? Do you think it is alright if I talked about wanting to be involved in swimming or bball and how there is an academic closeness and talking about how you dont have to declare a major for 2 years?

I think that you can get in

Why didn't you apply ED

because i applied to stanford (rejected)

Emory is probably my 3rd school, and I really hope I get in.

Any more help or tips would be great. Thanks!

personally i think you have a great chance...

OK, now I am started to get worried a little. With the whole Emory is really obsessed with demonstrated interest this is what I checked on the app.

-Other (Naviance TCCi website)
-Emory Website
-Guidance Counselor
-Emory Alumnus (listed his name)

Is that enough? I know more is better, but will I be one of the 5% who gets immediately discounted because they think it is just a backup for me? (even though it isn't or I wouldn't be posting in this forum)

If you visit, stay over, email them, keep in touch and just show how much you want to go there then you are definately in RD. You are def. qualified statistically.....Also think about ED2 if its your top choice other than Stanford

If I just email them and ask questions and things, do they add it to my file? I already submitted the application...

What can I do now showing that I am interested (which I am) in Emory knowing that my application is in already?

Badandy12
I hope you get in because my stats are very similar to yours with one of my main extracurriculars being tennis.
To respond to your question about showing interest:
-If you live close especially, try to visit, they love that and basically tell you that by just being there you increase your chances of getting in
-If you can't vist you should email or call you regional director just to show them how interest you are
-Since you are an athlete, I would also suggest talking to the coach because they are Division III and if you are any good, the coach might be interested and that can really help

Would I just visit and they would know I was there? I already submitted my app, how do I get them to add to the file?

when you visit, you are pre-registered and you sign in. They know

You might order the DVD. Couldn't hurt.

http://www.emory.edu/ADMISSIONS/admission-aid/order-video-dvd.htm

Colleges that care about interest have a database and they track you by your SSN.

Thanks! Great idea.
