So, I’m planning on ED in the fall as of now. Brown is by far my top choice school, especially after I visited.

Please tell me if you think I have a chance, or if I should start looking at safer schools!

Thank you,
Lauren

You have a shot. Your IB thing is cool. Definitely look for safety schools though, because it's by no means a sure bet. What would you say is your hook?

No guarantee, but I don't believe that my essays will be too shabby. Also, I know my teacher/counselor recommendations will be excellent (we're pretty much family already).

However, I don't have the whole "legacy" thing going on, so it's all riding on what I send in.

Do you have an idea if these stats are good enough for PLME?

Thanks!

Wait, you got a 1390 on the New SAT? Or like is your new score equivalent to a 1390 on the old one?

1390 on the new SAT, taken in March of this year.

Sorry.

but your submitting ACT anyway, so pretty good

a further question, you guys:

Do I have a chance at PLME with ED?

PLME is really, really, REALLY tough.

:-/

Any suggestions? I've heard that they focus on your essay more than your stats (not ignoring the numbers, but focusing on more important things, like your personal voice that shines through in the essay).

Am I completely wrong?

No, I've heard that too. Don't get discouraged, and by all means, apply anyway. Can't hurt.

Thank you.

because you have to get into brown before you can get into PLME (the regular admissions committee approves you before the PLME committee does), even if you don't get into PLME ED you can still get into brown ED (you'll see what i mean when you do the app)

everything looks good except your SAT score, I don't understand how someone who takes IB classes and has done all that stuff you have (internships, math honor society, etc..) can get a 1390 total. That is approximately 460 per section.. unless you're an international student who doesn't know much english/critical reading/writing that score will look incredibly bad.

might be

New SAT 1390 + SAT II Writing 760 = actual new SAT score of 2150

(like she only counted the math & reading part of the SAT in her 1390 to help out those old SAT people like me who cant comprehend the new SAT scores lol)

no, but just above when someone asked that question, she said that is her New SAT score as it is.. at least thats what i understood from her response

elbie: give us the breakdown of your SAT scores and clear this up.

Haha, sorry guys.

Math = 700
Verbal = 690
Writing (Essay) = 760 (12/12 on essay)

So, my grand total is 2150.

:-)

Your courses (IB curriculum) sound very good, better than the typical Brown admit.

Your gpa is confusing (hehe) and I therefore couldn't evaluate it.

Your rank is good, probably a tad below the typical Brown admit.

Your scores are decent, a bit below the typical Brown admit but still workable.

Your activities sound very good, better than the typical Brown admit.

Good shot overall... ED will boost your chances a fair bit, so do it if Brown is your number 1 choice. Good luck!

Thank you a lot!

hey, i would appreciate if someone could look over my stuff, as well, and tell me what they think i should improve on for my app and whether they think i have a chance early decision...

new sat: 740v, 700m, 730writing (planning on retaking it in october)
haven't received my sat II scores yet but am waiting on math IIc & chemistry

my gpa is weighted so basically i'm 2nd (for now) in a class of about 450.

i take all the aps available at my school and have a perfect transcript so far.
