Do I have a chance to get into any UC at all?

I'm at a ccc with a 2.48 gpa, (1 F, and 7 W's). The F was due to a drop date error, and the W's were all in the time-span of 2-3 semesters because of a family death and family cancer diagnosis. My counselor has assured me that I can apply for academic renewal after this semester to remove the "F" from my gpa, significantly increasing it.

Question: Should I bother applying to any UC's and shoot for a luck-of-the-draw chance? Or should I just stay another year recovering from my past academic troubles and re-apply next year? The reason I ask is because I heard some stories about some transfer students being admitted to UC's with gpa's around 2.5, etc. And, I'm shooting to have around a 3.0 by next spring after this semester, and academic renewal.

Any input is appreciated,

-Thanks!

Forgot to add, i'd be applying as a Psychology major.

You should just repeat the "F" if it's your only one and the better grade will be calculated into your GPA.

As for applying to any UCs, you may have a shot at the lower-end ones like UCR or UCM.

Why not? If you don't mind staying another year (which it seems your don't) give it a shot this year. You may loose a few bucks on application fee's, but you may also get in.

Depends on what your GPA without that F is. I'm helping other people transferring to a UC with a minimum of 2.8 GPA. For the most part if you don't have a 2.8 GPA (TAG GPA) then its a really long shot. Maybe UCR or UCM, but still.
