Im currently a freshman at Indiana University. Im from New York and NYU is my dream school, I applied last year but didn’t get in for obvious reasons. I had a 3.2 gpa and a 1760 on my sat. Im applying for transfer for fall 2016 into the MCC (Media, Culture, Communications) program at Steinhardt. I currently have a 3.62 gap (two A+, two A-, and one B- in calculus). I have many ECs that show an interest in my major: Indiana All-Media, Music Industry Networking Club, Business Careers in Entertainment, Auditorium Student Volunteer, and I take voice and piano lessons. I also did flag football this semester but I don’t think that matters much. I intend on doing my best to get a 4.0 this semester. Do you think I have a shot at getting in? I know my scores in high school are horrible. However, they carry much less weight compared to when I applied last year, and it shows an upward trend compared to my 3.62 gap now. Im not saying that my sat and hs gpa don’t matter but to be honest, an admissions committee member is too smart to assume that only a high sat taken over a year ago indicates a good fit into the program. But then again, a student can have high scores and good EC’s. When browsing on forums Ive seen students get accepted to MCC with a 3.3 and students rejected with a 3.88.
I already started writing down ideas for my transfer essay. I am going to make it program specific and talk about how NYU is significatly more academically challenging and the endless opportunites NY can offer me as I work towards being in the Entertainment Industry. I also would like to discuss the lack of a gay community that i experience from going to school in the midwest.
Do you think admissions committee will overlook my low hs gpa/sat scores and see that I fit into the program?
Do you think I have a slight better chance considering I applied last year?
Thank you all so much!!
