Ive gotten into GA southern and South Carolina but would much prefer UGA.

My stats were better and then I got this concussion at the end of last year and got 2 cs then and a c first semester of senior yr. Do I have a chance to get in or not?

uga is heavily focused on grades/scores… if your gpa is unweighted, you have a chance… if its weighted, you have a very little chance.

You said that you sustained the concussion at the end of your junior year. If your GPA was solid up until that point (say around a 3.5 to 3.6), then I’m sure that the admissions office would understand and you would have a shot. However, if your GPA was around what it is now, then the admissions office probably won’t be that sensitive to your problems caused by the concussion.

P.S.
How did you get the concussion? I sustained 5 through football (decided to quit after the 5th one because of the health concerns later in life) and I know how debilitating they can be.

Yeah it was very solid (3.5 or 3.6) up until that point. during senior year football I got another minor one and kept going. It was retriggered again 2 weeks later and it turned into a big problem because it had been retriggered if that makes sense. I had to sit out the second half of my senior yr of football and I got really behind in my classwork, I was dull for about 3-4 months and had a slight personality change as well according to parents. I was able to make up schoolwork at the end of that semester bc of nice teachers. I barely passed an AP Literature class, got a b in math, got a b in ap psych, got a b in econ, a in art. it wasn’t my best semester…

Since you explained that situation in an essay, your chances have definitely improved as it sounds like you suffered from Post Concussion Syndrome. I’d say that you’re a match for UGA (although, I’m not an expert on UGA admissions).

When you describe retriggering your concussion, what actually happened was your original concussion never fully healed and the impact that caused the setback ended up causing further trauma to the brain. Incidents like these are what the NFL and NHL have become increasingly concerned about. I had a similar situation with my first concussion. I didn’t get knocked out and didn’t think anything was wrong with me, so I kept on playing and ended up with 2 months of headaches, sensitivity to light and dizziness.

You should Google some of the findings of concussions in sports (particularly ex-NFL players); there’s some very interesting and frightening information out there.

Anyways, best of luck with your UGA admissions process.

Here is the first year class profile for 2010:

Middle 50% of All Enrolled First-Year Students: 3.68 - 4.0
Overall Average of All Enrolled First-Year Students: 3.83

SAT-I Middle 50% of Admitted First-Year Students 1800 - 2080
SAT-I Middle 50% of Admitted First-Year Students (CR&M): 1190 - 1360
Overall SAT-I Average of Admitted First-Year Students: 1263
ACT Middle 50% of Admitted First-Year Students: 27 -31
Overall ACT Average for Admitted First-Year Students: 28

Your standardized test scores put you right at the lower 25% and your GPA is below the average. I think it will depend on the the strength of this year’s applicant pool. RD looks at more than just test scores and GPA so if your essay and recommendations were good I think you have a chance.

Good luck.

I happened to come across this post, and i’m wondering if you got in? I’m a senior in high school, with similar stats, so just wondering if i had a chance too…

UGAdawgs123, even if he got in with those stats, you probably won’t - unless you have the explanation of the concussion like he does. I’d assume that they’d give him more leeway because of his health problems, but if you have no such justification for having stats below the norm, then your chances aren’t looking that good.
