Do I have a chance?

Hello, my name is Thomas and I am a junior in High School, I was just wondering if I have what it takes to get into Georgetown University. I will first list everything about me. My GPA is 3.94, my SAT at the moment is 1950, I am enrolled in three AP's, APUSH (I maintain a B+), AP Accounting (I maintain an A), and AP Psychology (I maintain an A). I plan on getting two good recommendation letters along with having a good essay. My extra curricular activities is what i'm hoping will get me into the University. I have participated in Key Club for one year, Future Business Leaders of America for two years and I am currently and officer (plane to participate one more year), I was in the Junior Fire Department Juniors program in my town for two years where I reached the position of Secretary and than Second Lieutenant. I also plan on joining the actual fire department this summer. Now for my sports. I am a rower and I absolutely love it. I am a member of the varsity crew team in my town. My boat is the 12th best light weight boat on the East Coast, and we have won multiple metals and competitions. I am a captain of the team; and for all you rowers out there reading this, I am 6'1", 149lbs (light weight), row a 1:35.4 500m, 6:52 2000m, 22:34 6000m, and hope to get my 2000m down to 6:45, and my 6000m down to 22:00 (I am currently a junior). That is all the information for you, if you have wasted your time reading this, thank you very much and please reply what you think, I will not be offend but happy, I need a reality check. Thank you.

Also forgot to mention that I am certified in CPR, AED, and I am a CFR (Certified First Responder), I also am joining the National Honors Society next year (12th)
and my GPA is weighted, but no class ranking.

I believe Dartmouth would be a better fit for you as a recruited athlete. What are your SAT scores in each section and which school would you want to attend? And I don’t believe there is an AP Accounting
EDIT: 3.94 weighted is not great, (granted its better than mines) I had the choice of joining the NHS, or taking a course at Georgetown, so I don’t think that will be a deciding factor for any school.

SAT: Math- 670 Critical- 680 Writing- 600
There is an AP Accounting that my school offers, its like a special program between our school and SUNNY schools
I would prefer Georgetown University b/c they have a light weight crew team

If you are recruit material, you have a great shot at Georgetown. If not, then you should bring up those scores because my scores are 120 points higher than yours, I’m first gen college, etc…And don’t worry about the writing section if only aiming for Georgetown

Your SATs are weak for GU. If you get in, it will be because of the athletics.
Just for clarification: is the 3.94 GPA weighted or unweighted. If the former, what is the UNweighted?
What math (if anything other than accounting) and science courses are you taking (and which ones do you anticipate taking as a senior)?

My GPA is weighted, and I have taken bio, chem, and earth science, and I plan on taking AP Enviormental Science next year, my math is very weak, im just in normal classes for math such as algebra, geometry, and algebra 2 trig.

So the impression that I am getting from everyone is that my grades and school work is a little bit on the low end for GU, but that my sports and extra curricular activities are just where they should be?

what crew team? were you at US Rowing Youth nationals?

I am attending US Rowing Youth Nationals this year, I qualified. Sorry but I dont want to disclose my team because it indicates where I live.

If you’re recruited - sit back and relax, you are in even with the lower scores.

If you’re not, you still have time to bring them up.

Regardless, you’ll be ok.

Thanks for the reply eb9811 what really just boosted my confidence lol.

eb9811- I appreciate your stereotype of athletes as getting in to good schools regardless of grades and test scores. Maybe if you actually knew how recruiting works for athletes at top universities you would sound credible.

What do you mean Hoyagolfer?

That was remarkably rude, Hoyagolfer.

Statistically, recruited athletes at top schools have stats within the normal range, but on the lower end.

No need to get defensive.
