Hello I'm just wordering if I have a chance in hell of getting into a medical school. I am currently finishing up my advanced practice degree as a fnp. My gpa for this program is 3.5. My undergraduate degree for my ADN is a gpa of 3.31. It is lower because I was depressed in hs and had to basically relearn all of hs my first two semesters. I have about a years worth of classes I will have to take after my graduate degree. Provided I do well in these do you think I have a chance? I was also an LPN and I graduated from that program with honors. I know a lot of this doesn't matter but I've seen some school list prior clinical knowledge as a Plus. Thanks

Also my science, as it stands without the remaining classes, gpa is 3.45. I received an a in all biology/ micro classes. An a in one chem class and a b in the other. I did receive two Cs my first year because like I said I took two remedial classes to relearn what I didn’t in hs 8( oh and the two Cs were in remedial math classes.

On the surface, it looks possible especially if you’re willing to consider DO schools as well as MD schools

However, one possible issue is that bio/micro/chem/Ochem/physics courses for nursing students may not meet entrance requirements for med schools. Many schools offer 2 tracks for sciences–one for health professions (nursing, PT, dental hygiene, etc) and one for liberal arts/science. Unless you took the courses designated for arts/sciences majors, your coursework probably isn’t going to meet entrance requirements for most medical schools. But this is something you need to consult with the pre-med advisor at your college about.

That’s the years worth of classes I will have to take AFTER my graduate degree. I am willing to do this because as I’ve worked with the medical model some in my fnp program, I’ve learned it seems like a better fit for me. Thanks for your reply!

Anyone else care to opine? I appreciate all opinions.

One last bump, I appreciate any advice/input

Still wondering wish I had a little more input but Ty wayoutwestmom for responding, appreciate it greatly

Have you taken the MCAT yet?

Does your state offer choices for in-state public med schools?

Have you looked at the MSAR for possible schools based on your MCAT score, overall all GPA and BPCM GPA?

And the suggestion to look at DO schools is also a good one, along with consulting your pre-med advisor at your 4 year university.

Ty. I’m studying for the MCAT now. I’m thinking about Ohio university and I am a current resident of Ohio. Just getting all my ducks in a row. Thank you for your response 8)
