I will be explaining why my GPA is so bad because of the personality problems I had in my essay. Pretending that my essays will be splendid, do I have a chance? I'm applying for Undecided or Marketing as an international applicant.

Not much chance if out of state. In state, slightly more so but still a major reach. Your GPA coupled with your low-rigor schedule is a major weakness, as well as your SAT score. Your ECs are good but most likely will not make up for the lack of the former.

It is too much of a reach I think. Your 12th grade GPA is admirable, but it will not make up for your 3.0 GPA 9th-11th grade (Michigan does not look at weighted GPA, only unweighted). Your SAT and TOEFL are solid but also not great. You do not have to waste essay space discussing your personal problems. You may want to focus on more positive aspects of your personality. Your personal issues can be addressed in the “additional information” part of the Common Application. Make sure you have your school and a valid doctor substantiating your explanation.

More reasonable schools would be Arizona State, Colorado-Boulder, Michigan State and Minnesota-Twin Cities, to name a few. A good reach may be Indiana-Bloomington (Kelley is an awesome Business school, but it is a reach).

I don’t know what to make of your personal problem insofar as it affects your application. In the absence of this, your stats would suggest you are a major reach. The essay should focus on how you have overcome the problem rather than the problem itself. I admire your efforts to work with this. Whether you can convince the admissions to admit in spite of subpar stats I can’t answer.

@entenduintransit, Thanks for the comment. All I wanted to know was that doing the mich app is not a complete waste of time. I will try my best to cover them, even if I will have an almost zero chance of getting in :)

@Alexandre, That was my main objective. I will be writing not just about how it affected me, but what I learned from it and how it built who I am today. I already have Minnesota and Indiana in my list, but not the rest you mentioned :)

You GPA is very weak. Michigan values both the GPA and the rigor of the high school (and your course load) more highly than test scores (although these are important too). And since Michigan doesn’t look at weighted GPAs, your unweighted overall GPA is likely below 3.0 which would place you in the bottom 1% for enrolled students (and most of these would probably be athletes recruited by Michigan). I would suggest applying to a school where you would shine academically, at least for the first year or two.

The very fact that your GPA dropped going from sophomore to junior year (which may be the most important year for your transcripts) makes me think that your potential for acceptance is very low.
