Do I have a good chance for making it into Middlebury? I really really love Middlebury College and would appreciate any input! Thank you!!!

haha I think you’re good - the class rank will help you and your GPA is good and so is your ACT. same with your EC’s… do you have any hooks (also what race/gender are you?).

Oh I’m not sure-that Math score isn’t going to help you and for girls it’s harder to get in. Have you expressed an interest in competing in sports in college?
You are definitely qualified, it’s just are you also LUCKY…Very smart to apply ED, I give you somewhat better than 50-50 odds, but I wouldn’t burn all my bridges yet.

I completely agree with Oldbatesiedoc. My daughter had an ACT Composite of 33 vs your 31 and unweighted GPA the same as yours and she got wait listed and then did not get in off the wait list. Her Math level 2 score was around 730. Luck is definitely what you need, but if you have luck can easily get in. Oh yes, my daughter was also a California kid (San Francisco Bay Area). She ended up at Colby.

Right, what a lot of people don’t understand is there are at least 10 qualified students for every spot…So there is some “luck” in having something about your application catch the eye of a person on the ADCOM.

OP here is my completely inexperienced take on your chances for what it’s worth. Your academic transcript will be just fine to garner serious attention form the admissions committee. Congrats on your high GPA in a rigorous schedule! Yes, the 31 ACT is a little below average for Midd but it isn’t a deal breaker by any means. Also, just curious if you have a higher superscore? If so submit those tests for sure because they look at the highest subsections.

So as with every application it comes down to your ECs and your ability to convey your passions and intellectual curiosity. Since you have already submitted your app it is of course wait and see at this point. A fantastic essay that offers significant insight into the personal qualities (character) and/or intellectual qualities you will offer Midd is critical.

The alumni interview means a lot to the Middlebury admissions committee. They take the report very seriously, and from what I understand they view the interview as not only a way to get a sense of how engaged you are in community and general activities, but also as a way to get a sense of what kind of alum you would make. Are you the kind of person who will stay active within the greater Midd community long after you have graduated or is Midd just a place to spend 4 years to receive a top notch education? These are clues they are looking for in every application.

And yes, as others have pointed out, ultimately it does boil down to some serious luck as well. So I wish you the best of it, good luck with the process!!
