Personal
i am low income, i was born in another country and came here when i was 5, my parents went to college in another country, but nothing in America.

and my cousin goes here

stats are questionable, ECs are good, and i'm not really sure if i'd put kool-aid club on an application. what's so special about the cousin?

whats so questionable about it. i have taken every ap or honors class possible throughout high school, except for english 4.

and my act is a little below average. if i can bring it to a 26, then i will be right with the pack

what do other people think

oh and the club thing is a great idea. i forgot to mention we sell koolaid at games and assemblies and then buy koolaid to give to hot and tired homeless people and orphans.. so ya, what have you done :)

ucsc would be a match, others would be a match/reach but more on the reach side. ucla is a big reach.

what about ucsb, i would rather go there than anywhere else. what do you think , is it that big o a reach. i had friends this year with lower stats than myself get in

so honestly what do others think

'questionable' because your standardized test scores are somewhat low. a 1790 translates loosely into a 600 on each section, or a 1200 with the old test format, which is pretty low if you're aiming for the middle of the pack. and an ACT 24 = 1650 SAT I score, so that doesn't really help your case either.

my gut feeling with UC admissions is that the volume of applicants is so high that they won't have enough time to pay attention to the details of your application, like reflecting on how much time you spent on ECs, reading through every word of your personal statement, etc. unfortunate as it is, i think that the cold hard numbers go a LONG way.

and it's not number of AP tests that's the only important factor, it's your performance on them that really matters. a monkey could sign up for 20 APs and get a "1" by filling in random bubbles, you should have more passing grades (4s, 5s are better) than non-passing ones. is your school one of those weird ones that requires all its AP students to take the exam? because if you go into one knowing that you're going to fail, it's really just a waste of your time and money.

Ummmm get that ACT to a 28 at least..... THEN you'll be "right with the pack".... check the Average scores for admitted freshmen once in a while...

Average SAT 1 for UCSD is in the 1900s... ALSO from average admitted freshmen.

Average admitted freshman's UC GPA is 4.07 for SD 4.14 for LA and 4.17 for berkeley.

my high school is very competitive, especially my grade, 09.

i just want to go to ucsb, i mean i dont care about any of the other places, i wish we had this on the santa barbara link. but to late.

i also took a us history at the comm college and does that factor into my uc gpa because if it does then my gpa goes up a lot. and that also goes for the computers class i took during summer school

thanks for the help and advice

I'm pretty sure you can get into UCSC ... pretty decent chances for UCSB and UCI ... but as for UCSD and UCLA, I don't think you will be able to get in with your GPA and test scores. Your UC GPA is capped at 8 points, right? Your ECs are nice, but they will only get you so far.

if i can get my sat's to a 1900 do you think i can get into ucsd and ucsb?

If that's your weighted GPA it sucks. Your AP scores suck as well and so does your SAT score.

Your extracurricular activities are nice but I don't think they'll make up for your mediocre stats.

I wouldn't hold my breath for UCLA. Maybe not for UCSD either.

so does that mean that you think i can get into ucsb, i dont care if my stats suck, if they get me into ucsb then i dont care at all

better to post on the UCSB forum...you should really trust their opinions more than ours.
