Do I have a chance?

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if you could evaluate my chances on getting in to Harvard. Also, does Harvard have a good pre-law program?

My Info:
I am a white female from Michigan

GPA: 3.998 unweighted (my school does not weight)

My school does not class rank either

I take the most rigorous classes possible (at my school AP's are not available until junior year)
I am currently taking:
French 4 AC (AC=honors)
American Studies AC
English 11 AP
Chemistry AP (includes a lab period and a lecture period)
Psychology
Math Analysis AC

I plan on taking these next year:
Physics AP
Government AP
Philosophy
English 12 AP
Calculus AB
French 5 AP

My extracurriculars:
3 seasons of Rowing (freshman and half of sophomore year)
One season (I have been skiing since age 3) on my school's newly established ski racing team (i'm coming back next year)
I teach Sunday school for 4-5 year olds at my church (I am also involved in vacation bible school over the summer)
I am an active member of NHS and Key club
I am a three year member and treasurer of French Club (hopefully president or VP next year)
I volunteer regularly at the soup kitchen through my church
I am looking into starting a club to volunteer at the local animal shelter

my extracurriculars are a bit scattered but I plan on marketing myself as a well rounded individual haha

My test scores:
I have only taken each test once (i plan on testing again) and i did not prepare for either (it was intentional, I was setting a benchmark score)

ACT: 30 ( i can probably raise it 2 or 3 points)
SAT: 1910 (I know I can get it up to at least 2100)

So how do I look? Any help is greatly appreciated :)

1) Your test scores do not align with your GPA, which is a red flag.
2) Your ACT does not fall within Harvard’s 31-35 range.
3) Your SAT does not fall within Harvard’s 2080-2370 range.

Unless you can significantly raise your test scores, your best shot is try using your experience on a crew team as your hook.

Can you row at a national level? You might be able to get recruited, as gibby says. However, even if you can row well, you should study and retake the SAT to be competitive. Two of my friends at Harvard were national-level rowers. One of them got accepted and his SAT score was over 2100, the other got waitlisted then accepted and her SAT score was over 2200.

Unfortunately, I did not continue with rowing after sophomore year (I am now a junior). I am thinking about going back for the fall season next year. If I did I would get my letter. But all of that aside, I was never a very skilled rower so there would be no chance whatsoever for recruitment :(

bwaahhaha chance meeeee

1910 SAT, get that up and your chances will increase exponentially. :)

Well I do not agree alone that test score matters. Because Harvard has score of candidate who has high test score essay remain the vital part for the decision.

you won’t get in if they see your CC username

possibly just because youre from Michigan; I’m not sure if there are many qualified applicants, and they do take that into account. But otherwise I honestly doubt it because it seems from your test scores that your school must be on the easy side.

@jogginggear - LOL!

Well, as everyone else has been saying, you need to raise those scores! Besides that, I think you definitely have a chance.

What are my chances?
I’m ranked #1 of approximately 450. I’m an African American in a school that is about 90%+ white with a GPA of 6.85. I’ve taken all of the AP courses that have been offered in the district. I’ve lettered in 1 varsity sport and just recently found out that I’m a National Achievement Finalist. I’ve also been interviewed by an alum who complimented me in many ways.

I think you have a decent chance but remember that the vast majority of Harvard applicants are just like you or even better. You need to get those scores up, and it’s hard to judge right now because colleges look closest at your Junior year, which should be the most rigorous. Even though your GPA is fabulous right now, most often that changes Junior year. Your AP scores also play a part, as well as the rest of your app.
