i know i may seem really underqualified for u penn, but i know someone who got in from my school w/ a weighted GPA of 3.33 and didn’t have too many extra-curriculars or alumni connections. i’m soo confused!?!

You will see people like that get in anywhere, strangely enough. You seem like you have a pretty decent shot. Are you going for the College or Wharton? Your SAT is good as-is but if you could raise it, I'd recommend it. Definitely take some SAT2s and try to get at least a 700+ on all of them to be safe. Don't worry if your school doesn't offer many APs; as long as you are taking the most rigorous courseload you can, you're fine. Your ECs are also fine but Who's Who and National Honor Roll are "cheap ECs" that won't impress adcoms. I'd remove those from your list.

You need to specify which college in Penn you are applying for as well as stating whether its for ED or RD. However, overall I'd say your chances are pretty good. You have minority status and very good ECs. Your SATs are decent (try to get those SAT IIs in) and your GPA, although low, are somewhat compensated by your high class rank.

Also, a question for legend, would "National Society of High School Scholars" be considered a "Cheap EC" as well? Because I am also a member and it's just something that I got in the mail.

yeah.. i would say that's somewhat cheap
it doesnt hurt to list it, but dont rely on it

i love these questions, what are my chances.

here's a bit of advice, you simply never know. so apply anyway.

i got into penn but waitlisted to georgetown. how? i asked myself the same question. oh wells. i'm happy. =)

good luck w/ your applications.

go quakers!
