Do I have a chance?

I'm currently a high school junior, with a GPA of a 3.0 (it will go up to a 3.2 by the end of this year). I took the ACTs once, and received a 20 but that was with minimal preparation. I'm taking them again this weekend (eek!), and I am hoping that I will eventually end up with a score of anywhere around a 22-25. I am a yearbook editor, and also a section leader in my high schools concert band/marching band. If it's any consolation, my mother also went there. Any help? Thanks!

My son is also a junior and is looking at the engineering program at Buffalo, so the requirements are a bit higher for him. However, generally, Buffalo looks for a slightly higher GPA - this alone would not be an issue, but your ACTs are really problematic. If you can get your ACT up to a 25, you may have a chance, but I would say you are really borderline. Good luck!

Are you a NY resident? (Most kids here take SAT so that’s why I ask). I suggest taking the SAT as well…they’re very different tests and you may do better on that. Also, pay for the optional score report so you can see which areas you need to focus on. You will have to get your scores higher to be in the “likely” category for UB, at least a 25, as wolfarkas said. Otherwise, unless you qualify for EOP admissions, I would not get my hopes up.

Btw, is that 3.2 unweighted? If so, do you know your weighted avg and which your school reports on transcripts?
