Do I Have a Chance?

Hi everyone,

I was hoping if someone could possibly tell me whether I even have a chance getting into Brown. I’m currently only a sophomore, so I haven’t taken SAT or ACT. I know that part is very important (and my grades for junior year), but could someone tell me whether i have enough EC’s/ things that stand out? From what I’ve heard, it’s wayyyyyyyyy extremely hard to get in because of my ethnicity (people my race tend to be overachieving and too smart).
If someone could tell me, I’d REALLY appreciate it!

Chancing a sophomore is ridiculous.

^
True but you seem to be on the right track. Really, if you start working and practicing for the SAT now, you should be scoring at least 200 points higher if you take the test an year or so from now so start working on those! Aim for at least 2200.

What about a PSAT score? Have you taken it yet?

So far you’re on the right track. And HKToUS is right, start prepping for the SAT now.

Come on…do ground on land. Without SAT or ACT, no chance.

What the **** is that supposed to mean?

Don’t get your hopes up. There are thousands of other, even more ambitious people than you - white, black, asian and native american.

Asking for a chance is a sign of insecurity. It means you’re not confident in your own evaluation of yourself. Furthermore, chancing someone on an online forum is absolutely ridiculous. Give me a half dozen writing samples, your junior and first-semester senior grades, your scores and a look at about 500 other random applicant’s same material, and I could probably tell you whether you fell in the first third, mid third or bottom third of applicants. Which is to say, seeing as our admit rate is <10%, that even if I put you in the top third, and only people from the top third got accepted (which isn’t necessarily the case), you’d still have less than a 30% chance of acceptance. But, in the end, I’m not an admissions officer, I’m not on any board that helps determine who gets in, and I don’t really know what goes through people’s minds when they choose to accept THIS applicant over THAT applicant. So, don’t trust anything anyone tells you about your chances on here: frankly, they’re highly unlikely to know. Have some self-confidence and live your own life.
