Hello, I would really like honest opinions regarding whether or not I would be able to be admitted into MIT.

I am going to be a junior, I have a 4.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale (hopefully it will rise this year). I always receive As in math and science class. The only times I have received Bs were in English. I have taken all honors classes and AP classes available so far. This year I am taking 5 AP classes and 2 honors classes. I am taking 2 math classes and 2 science classes as I enjoy the two subjects very much. Freshman and sophomore year I took two languages.

My extracurriculars/hobbies are:
tennis (only freshman and sophomore year)
math team (only junior and senior year)
science bowl (only junior and senior year)
latin club (all 4 years except freshman year)
Rubik's cube club (all four years)
volunteering at the local public library
volunteering at the local animal shelter
pottery class
intro to robotics class at local community college (junior year)
tutoring in math and latin
piano
(possibly) research internship (junior and senior year)

MIT is my dream school, however I have not received an honest opinion regarding whether or not I would be admitted (not even from my guidance counselor!) If anyone has been admitted and/or currently is enrolled, I would greatly appreciate honest advice!

Dude, you’re fine. Just when you take the SAT you will want to get in the ranges for MIT, which are pretty high. So far it looks like your interests are all over the place. Try to do one or two things and be really really good at those.

If you can pull off above a 2200 superscore, Id say you have a great chance. Again, its early so who knows but its good you are thinking ahead. Also, dont stress out about SAT’s, you may only get 2000 the first time, but you will improve once u get comfortable

To have a good shot at MIT you need more than great grades and test scores. You need to do something impressive, like win a state-wide competition, or have some amazing ECs.

Sorry to rain on the parade, but a 2200 SAT will not give you a “great” chance. It will give you a 7% chance, or whatever the acceptance rate at MIT is. Basically every student applying has equally impressive test scores, and like an above poster pointed out, you need something unique which demonstrates your talent beyond standardized scores.

(Edit) - I should clarify that I don’t literally mean you would have a 7% chance, but that having the same test scores as the rest of the applicant pool will give you no advantage.

Yeah but I mean whos trying to put pressure on the kid right? I mean nobody wants to motivate him and tell him that no matter what SAT he gets he is still not set?

MIT is a gamble for every student been if they are very smart and have good grades etc. You shouls check out MiTs site, they have a blog from an adcom officer that explains what they look for and the process. MITs site is one of the most useful college websites I have ever seen for admissions. They are straight forward and honest.

^I agree. If you are applying to any top reach university MIT’s site is a must visit. They give so much info on what top universities are looking for; it really helps you come up with the things you want to put on your application.
