Do I have a decent chance at my Local State School?

Wondering if I had a shot at getting into the U of M, for Liberal Arts. (or te university as a whole I guess.)

(Current junior, all accurate estimations)
White Male from Minneapolis, Minnesota
Decent Public school near St. Paul
Upper-Middle Class Income.
UW GPA 3.12 (This can be explained. I learned some valuable life lessons.)
W GPA: 3.19
ACT: 29 (trying to improve to 30-32)
PSAT: 157 (not taking the SAT)
Class Rank: Top 38% (9th grade & beggining of 11th were bad... some 'bad' grades in some classes that I should not have taken)
I'm quite a writer, since I do it all the time, so I think my essays will be top-of-the-line.

Good Recs.

Do you think I'll have any chance at all?

I'm going to say yes to this, mostly because of your ACT and since you're applying to CLA. Your ECs seem good so I'm sure it will be a good plus. Actually, everyone looks up to the standard except the GPA (which I'm sure you know) I have a friend who is applying with slightly better stats (3.3,34), so if you want I'll PM you when I find out his decisions so you can have a decent reference point at least.

And, as far as I know CLA doesn't require an essay (I think only CSOM does actually) but I'm sure you can always send it as supplementary material. Good luck next year!

I'll also say yes. I know OOS students who have gotten in with much less.

You should be in fine.

I'm really happy that I have a good shot, but the pamphlets that they send me in the mail make it look like you NEED to be in the top 10% of your class. I'm not even in the top QUARTER.
Hehe, what makes me so special?

Apply as early as you can so you will have a better shot.

^ Deadline is already passed.

Well, you're from Minneapolis, MN for a start.
You've taken honors/AP classes.
Good ACT score and EC's.

Good enough for LA at U of MN. :)

The GPA is kind of a problem...

^^OP is a junior so deadline has not passed for him.

Again, the earlier you can apply your senior year, do it. Spaces start to fill with rolling admissions and it is best to get your app in early. Good luck. :)

Like others have said, make sure to apply the first week the application is available to avoid any unwanted stress.
