My GPA is a 3.96 unweighted.
My SAT is a 1480. Superscore is a 1520. (I may retake this to get the score a bit higher)
I am taking multivariable calc next year (my senior year) and by the end of high school I’ll have taken 12 AP classes. (One being AP Comp Sci A)
I play tennis (2 years), inducted into National Honor Society, four year member of DECA, member of Math Team, Rube Goldberg Club, Robotics Club for 2 years, next year I am founding my own charity club called Share Overseas, I worked and volunteered at Kumon and Eye Level tutoring places.
How likely is it to get into UMich CE or EE? What are the acceptance rates for these branches?
I will also be applying to UIUC, UW Madison, Purdue Comp/Electrical Engineering.
I am an ILLINOIS resident.
Thank you!
Michigan doesn’t Superscore.
Michigan engineering is a reach for all OOS applicants.
Below is from the UMich Engineering website and is a blend of OOS and in-state students:
https://www.engin.umich.edu/about/facts/
Since the Class of 2023 stats aren’t available yet, overall, OOS students for the Class of 2022 had a 19% acceptance rate. UMich enrolled 1,363 Engineering students in a class of about 6,664 students for the Class of 2022. So, space is very limited.
Bottom line a GPA of 3.96 and SAT score of 1,490 gives you chance, but as mentioned, it’s a reach. Write some incredible essays and show them you really want to be a Wolverine.
So just to add some flavor here. Most likely a match for Illinois since your instate. Purdue also. Wisconsin is harder lately for Illinois kids. Michigan is a reach for OOS. Founding a club in senior year doesn’t add much.
Having 12 AP is nice along as you continue to do well senior year. With Mutivarible do you have physics BC? What other AP do you have in sciences? Michigan looks at senior grades if you don’t get in EA. They don’t superscore but they will look at both scores so call it what you want. Send in both your scores. As stated the essay counts put effort into it.
I am doing AP Econ (micro and macro), AP Gov, AP Lit, AP Physics C Mechanics, AP CSA, and Calc 3. So AP Physics C and AP Physics 1 are my science classes.
It’s going to be tough but apply. UIUC is also a great school plus as stated Purdue. Engineering is a tough school to get into at major state universities and that’s just experience of sending two kids to engineering programs (Michigan State last year and Penn State this year)
Apply to some safeties also. Those AP help. My sons there from Illinois but higher Act equivalent. Lots of Illinois kids apply to Iowa and Iowa State for engineering. Both give merit. Also you would be like a free ride to Alabama which is extremely popular with Illinois students also.
Keep in mind OOS costs for Michigan also.
Also consider Georgia Tech, which has an excellent CS program and has lower tuition than Michigan
