Hey! I'm just wondering if I have a specific "hook" or somethng that I should emphasize in my applications:
Grades:
6th Grade: 3 A's and 2 A-'s in English and Accelerated Math
7th Grade: A's in Spanish and Science (98.5% Average in Science), A's or A-s in social studies, and B+'s or A-'s in Honors Pre Algebra and English
8th Grade: First Term: Socila Studies: A- 94% English A- 92%, Honors Science (very high-level, puts me one year ahead of my peers in high school) A-, 92%, Spanish A 99%, Regular Algebra, A 96%

I play the alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, piano, and I am learning guitar.
I play the alto*sax in regular Symphonic Band and selctive Wind Ensemble, and the Tenor Sax in my school's award-winning jazz band. I have played the saxophone for 5 years, guitar for 2 years, and piano for about 8 years.
I have been on my towns swim team for 5 years. Our team is the best in the league, and we have only lost 3 meets in the past 10 seasons, and we win championships every year. The girl's high school team in my town is nearly always state+regional division 2 champions, and is often the national champions as well.
I love art, and I paint and draw outside of school. Last year I took lessons after school, and last summer I participated in an intensive 6-week drawing+ painting classs at a local museum made up of mostly high school juniors and seniors.
I go to one of the best public middle schools in the state, and I am applying to deerfield, groton, concord academy, hotchkiss, and possibly one more, not sure of which yet, amybe Peddie for swimming.

Do I have a hook?

Thank you!

Your hook is swimming if your times are really good. Goooooo to Peddie. :)

Thanks, but I’m really only in maybe the top 50-40% of my team. Someone else told me it could be a hook that I do art, music, and a sport. What do youthink about that?

you have no “hook”… at all.
But you don’t have such bad stats.

what’s your time for your best event?

the schools that have swim teams/water polo will be interested in you.

no they won’t because all the top swimmers apply to those schools. so no, the “swim” schools won’t be interested too much. You have to apply to a school that SUCKS in swimming for them to be truly interested and “hooked” to you. Am I making sense here maddog?

not true and I know this for a fact. Swimmers are less in numbers than soccer and lax players, for example. So snappy, do you know any swimmers in BS? I`m in a family full of swimmers and I know some who were not top swimmers but were courted by the swim and water polo coaches. Butterfly is a swimmer for many yrs. so she/he knows that a few seconds makes the difference between a great swimmer and an average swimmer.
The bottom line is the dedication of swimming. Butterfly has that.

Well snappy, I was in a rush to class when I made that post. I now see you are a swimmer as well. So now I
m confused as to why you are discouraging Butterfly. She
s in the running w/ a 99 ssat and she
ll be able to swim anywhere.
BTW, the H school you
re looking at is one of the schools not too picky about swimmer times.
the swim coach is very cool.

Your “hook” is that you are a great all-around student and athlete with a wide range of interests and accomplishments.

@ maddog15 I actually did talk to the swim coach there and i thought he was awesome
and the pool is AMAZING :)

Thanks for the input everyone :)
