I am a sophomore student at California State University, Chico; also known by many as Chico State. Yes, the school is known for it's partying image. I did not think about this at first when applying and deciding to attend here because Chico was the only school that accepted me - did not do very well in high school had a 2.8gpa. Now I have matured more than ever and get excellent grades (3.8gpa) and I am involved in several campus activities. With the work ethic and intellectual drive I have now, I feel that I could do much better and could be challenged much more at a more prestigious school such as an Ivy League or so. I've started some of the common applications for the schools, but I am having trouble coming up with a legitimate reason for transferring. My major is political science/legal studies and thats offered practically everywhere. I also plan on attending law school. Any suggestions??

Yes you do. Academic dissatisfaction is a legitimate (and very common) reason to transfer. Address the need for a more intellectually nourishing environment tactfully in your essays.

Thanks for the suggestion! I"m just having trouble of constructing a statement that strays away from the "I want to go to a more prestigious school" cliche. Thanks for your input!

I think what you need to do is be specific in describing what you are dissatisifed with. For example, instead of just saying broadly that you don't think your school is satisfying, be more specific and say something about how your major's department doesn't have the classes/size/breadth that you want.
