So, I'm applying to Villanova early action, Fordham, Wake Forest, Bentley, Northeastern, and I'm starting to question my chances. Could anyone take a look? Thanks!

ACT: 31
Weighted GPA: 3.6
UW GPA: 3.0
ECs:
400+ hours of community service
2 jobs (one of which is frequent)
Captain of state finalist volleyball team
Captain of nationally competing club VB team
Hooks: I'm Catholic, so maybe that will help with some of the Christian schools?
High School: Top ten public schools in
Illinois

Schedule: All honors and AP classes
Grade Trend: Slight dip junior year

Any tips would also be appreciated! Will chance back.

Thanks!

Villanova - High match/low reach
Wake Forest - High Reach
Fordham - High Match
Northeastern - Match
I not qualified to chance you for Bentley, I have had minimal exposure to them.
Fortunately for you, Northeastern favors High test scores to GPA. Unfortunately for you, Wake forest is quite the opposite. Wake forest is very appealing to students who have a high GPA, but lacking test scores. Your GPA would simply not be enough for wake forest.

Your EC’s and ACT scores are competitive for these schools, but unfortunately your GPA is not. I think Villanova, Wake Forest, and Bentley are reaches. Fordham is a high match, and northeaster is a match. Best of luck

I am in concordance with a lot of these people. The tough course load and 31 ACT score are good for these schools. Volleyball is good for places with D3 athletics- have you talked to coaches?

Your GPA is pretty bad, not gonna lie.

You should look into Fordham early action, too. They appreciate demonstrated interest there. I think Wake Forest is a reach for you, but the rest are within grasp of being matches or high matches. Just don’t slack the essays!

Thank you for the help @rlee07928 ! Unfortunately, I had a 3 Cs junior year (one AP class and two honors classes) GPA weighted was 3.45. Do you think that will make a major difference in my chances?

Unfortunately junior grades are the most important year. You might be able to salvage something and say you pushed yourself academically and expanded your perspective, but that’s a long shot. The GPA itself notwithstanding, the yearly placement of the grades isn’t the most important part. Freshman are the least important, so please don’t tell me you had a 3.8 Frosh year and dropped from there.

@rlee07928 I had a 4.75 then 4.71 soph year and 4.43 junior year. My senior year is going well, but my schools semester ends after the RD application deadline, so won’t be able to send my senior year transcript in to boost my GPA and prove junior year was a fluke. Also, how where would I explain my poor junior year? Thanks for the replies!

okay i’m def not qualifid to chance you, but tips on explaining junior year-
counsellor letter- prove that you were taking a very high courseload
have teacher recs emphasize on your jr yr ecs so it comes across as you were very busy vs not working hard enough
also maybe write an essay about something you were doing jr year. don’t throw yourself a pity party, but show that you did NOT waste junior year, but simply advanced yourself in ways your transcript doesnt reflect.
Good luck!

GPA is mitigated by attending a Top10 school in Illinois, and by geographical diversity (Illinois/East Coast)

Villanova: high match
Fordham: reach
Wake Forest: reach
Bentley: match
Northeastern: reach

You need 3 more matches and 2 safeties.
These must all be schools you like and which you know you can’t afford, after you’ve run the Net Price Calculators.

@MYOS1634 I already have 2 safeties and 4 matches in the Midwest, but I’m struggling to find any matches (with good business programs) near either NYC or Boston. Do you think you know of any? Any help would be great! Thanks!

SUNY Geneseo is AACSB accredited, NY State’s Honors College, and would be a match. It’s not “near NYC” though, only in NY state.
Closer to NYC you’d have Marist (match), Stevens (match), Siena (low match/safety), Manhattan (safety), Bryant (safety), TCNJ (AACSB, match). In NYC you have Baruch (with Business Scholars program), a match, and Pace, a safety. Around Boston, I’d say you have a shot at Brandeis (reach), Babson (match), Clark (match), Stonehill (safety/Low match), Wheaton (match).

Your GPA is weak, but like MYOS1634 said, attending a top ten school should help somewhat. Do your best to explain the grade dip as Sophia91397 suggested. You’ve got a strong ACT score, and nice extra-curriculars, though, so that should help you.

Villanova - High Match
Fordham - Low Reach
Wake Forest - Mid Reach
Bentley - Mid Match
Northeastern - Mid Reach

Chance back?

Your EC’s are outstanding, and so are your test scores. Your GPA is a bit week though, so…
Nova- Match
Fordham- Low match
Wake forest- reach
Bentley- match
northeastern- match

Chance back?

Low weighted GPA. But all other is great! You have a shot…

Chance back?

Any other opinions?
