Do I have a realistic chance?

Not a preconception, but an impression backed up by experience. Like the Wasatch kid, I’ve skied the east and west and prefer the west, hands down. If you prefer the northeast, good for you. Stay there - we like our short lift lines.

No preconceptions. I have skied a lot in the east, Europe and the rockies. Funny, I only asked to be chanced, and knew it was a long shot. Someone suggested that I consider uvm for skiing which I have received a scholarship to. I responded by stating that I would not go to school in the east to ski the east, and this is what happened. I think that some responders to this thread have affirmed my preconceptions about many at MIDD. Now excuse me, I’m vacationing in Costa Rica, and this thread is boring me. …However, it does leave a bad taste about some…

Wow, Cody (and now Wasatch), If you take the time to read what I wrote, you see that I’ve lived in and skied both the east and west. I like both. I even stated, “both regions have their advantages.” The distinction I made was that just because the mountains are bigger doesn’t mean the skiers are. I didn’t say anything about the skiing out west being bad. While living in Crested Butte, I was friends with the US and World Champion in, what was at the time called, extreme skiing. He was a Vermonter. He loved the skiing in the west but credited his years skiing back east for his ability. I was only trying to point out that there are good skiers from everywhere and you’re only doing yourself harm if you believe they only come from areas with big mountains. Wasatch, I suspect that if having others question your beliefs turns you off of a school, then that school definitely is not for you.

Aren’t you diplomatic. Again, I only asked to be chanced. Personally, I wouldn’t move to the east to ski. Other than chancing me, i dont care about your volunteered opinions. To me, you sound like an ass. Let me ask you, do you ski in jeans…

To be honest, the phrase “Now excuse me, I’m vacationing in Costa Rica, and this thread is boring me” is dripping with privilege, pretension, and makes you also sound like an ass. I am another applicant and really can’t speak to chances, but you have a solid GPA. Your test scores are low, but that may be balanced out by your EC’s. Overall I would say that it isn’t as big of a reach as you think it is.

This is the point we’ve reached in the college application process. Applicants come here seeking advice, but demand that the opinions they’ve sought be limited to one specific area (demands, of course, are made after the fact). When the opinions and extraneous information aren’t what the applicant had hoped they turn to ad homonym attacks and insults. If College Confidential has decayed to this it may be time to stick to performing alumni interviews.

Just returned from my trip. The point is I wanted an opinion of my chances, and I am not interested in moving east to ski. I will be educated in NY, MA or VT., and I will bring a pair of skis to keep fit, but I will fly home a few times during the winter months to ski. urban…, on more than a few occasions I have noticed that you have a sharp tongue. Perhaps you should stick to alumni interviews. …just my unsolicited opinion.

Thanks Wasatch. I appreciate you input. Maybe you could provide some examples so I know what you’re talking about. Thanks.

Wasatch-I have to say I’m still thinkin’ you won’t get in…hoping someone more deserving(IMHO) gets the spot. So far, no one I’ve chanced neg has gotten in…Let’s hope the streak holds!

That’s cool.

It amazes me that, because I think that skiing in the east is not as good as skiing in UT., you people condemn me. Shame on you. I hope that this is not representative of the entire NESCAC population.

It’s not the skiing, it’s the rudeness to those who have given lots of advise to help the forum. But maybe you just come off snarky and don’t mean it.

Man, the 600 German is painful no? I got a 590 in Spanish and I’m basically fluent in Coloquial Spanish (Venzuela and Colombia), but I literally never did a Spanish multiple choice exam my entire life. Then some schools require you to send it and you’re like :((

Funny, but when I ask to be chanced at Midd., and someone “who [has] given lots of advise to help the forum” suggests that “If you want to ski, UVM is certainly an option for you”, I consider that rude, and worthy of my “snarky” behavior. If you were not trying to be condescending, sorry. That is the way that I took it.
Btw, thank you. I’m sure that you know, snarky is defined as, “A witty mannerism, personality, or behavior that is a combination of sarcasm and cynicism. Usually accepted as a complimentary term. Snark is sometimes mistaken for a snotty or arrogant attitude.” I hope that you will accept this as an opportunity to bury the hatchet. :)>-

Also, I will admit that I owe urban an apology. I have reviewed many of his posts, and have discovered that, for the most part, he has contributed only positive comments.

I think you’re missing the point. Most people weren’t condemning you. ONE poster condemned. Others were simply questioning, or even more innocuously, making suggestions. You drew some ire as a result of your reaction, not your opinion.

And thank you. Apology accepted.

When one person condemns (and “hopes” for a bad result for me), and 3 others “like” that condemnation, to me it infers that all four are condemning. Personally, I would never do that, and I don’t like when it is done to me. Imagine how disappointing that would be, if MIDD. was my #1?

Your streak has held.

Yes that’s true. No big deal for me. I wouldn’t have gone any way. When I visited, I wasn’t really impressed with anything, other than the beautiful facilities. I didn’t like the people. I didn’t like the town. I wasn’t impressed by the mountain (hill). My father liked the school. I did not. So far, I have been accepted to 6 schools, with scholarships to 4. I’ll survive.

Good luck at the University of Miami. That school is about as far removed as you can get from a selective liberal arts college in small town Vermont.
